Looking for Recommendations on Potty Training Videos/books

My daughter's approaching 2 and I'd like to start preparing her for potty training. Anyone have recommendations on DVD's, books, tools, ideas for this? She has a potty now, knows what it is, sits on it clothed and unclothed, tells me after she's pooped and "sometimes" when she's wet. I tell her when I go and get "excited about it"...LOL...I know...seems silly, but...

Any recommendations would be great!
thanks,
AM n

"Potty Training in One Week" by Gina Ford. Short book, very practical. Worked completely. My two boys were literally trained in one week and even out of pull-ups at night within about a month and a half!! Don't know about girls but I hear they're easier.

I didnt use any books or videos. I told my son that a "poop monster" lived in our septic tank, and it was our job to feed him all our poop and pee so he wouldnt starve to death. I know thats silly, but my son would run to the bathroom to "feed" our poop monster, he was soooo excited about it. He did hate sitting on the toilet, I had to buy one of those seats that sit on top of the seat and make it smaller so he wasnt scared he would fall in.
haha...the poop monster...I havent thought about it in a while. lol.

Our Oldest daughter was potty trained at play school. They had a section of the room set up with potties. When she saw the others (boys or girls) she thought she would try too.
Our second daughter wasn't as easy. It wasn't until my sister Patti returned from a trip to Chicago with present for Baileigh that Potty training really took off. The present was a package of Disney Princesses Panties. Patti told Baileigh that if she "pooped or peed" in these panties that they'd have to be thrown away and that she couldn't go back to Chicago to get anymore. It "WORKED"! The Princesses Panties were her motivation.
Good Luck!

I believe the name is "The Potty" video. Not sure but it has a red cover (if I remember correctly). It's a great video with a catchy song and both my kids loved it!

I probably shouldnt brag because I might jinx myself but here goes anyway.
Girls are so easy compared to boys. I have a 7 yr. old son and a 2 year old daughter who just turned 2 this past weekend. She has been doing all the signs you named since 18 months but I just couldnt believe she would possibly ready. Finally, she started to not want to wear diapers so I told myself 'this is it'! I wanted to go about it differently than with my son who it took until 3.5 and I did the whole pull up thing at about 3.....it took forever and simply didnt work until I cold turkey just 'did it'! So I took her diaper off for about 4 days when we were home and let her get the concept of where it comes from. She had a few accidents but she pretty much got it!! So since a week and a half ago she has been wearing panties and a diaper only when she sleeps. Its amazing!! Yes, she has had accidents but not very many. We have a Caulou book and she loves it too. I might get some disagreements on this but pull ups dont work. They can still pee in them. Also 2 is too young to understand all those tricks.....atleast for mine. Candy when she pee's just simply did not work.
Get her some panties and tell her they are panties like Mommys and go for it. Goodluck.

hi, I'm R. S.

am a mother of 5 grown children . . .my 1st potti trained easily, but when the 2nd came , , , she went back to not going for the attention . . .but bragging on her being the big girl (and big sister) moved her back, also making her proud to help with the newest addition
I also raised 2 geandchilden, and a child's book we read together was all it took . . .if you get a chance look for one at her age level to share

I pray this works, be blessed, R.

Elmo Potty time DVD is great. My daughter started watching it and started peeing on the potty at 20 months.

A the weather is going to get better soon, I recommend letting your DD wear "big girl panties" instead of diapers/pull ups. She might get them wet or soiled at first, but I think it helps the child to make the connection ("Hmmm I peed, OMG my big girl panties are wet, I will try to prevent this from happening next time") I totally agree on getting excited when she uses the potty (or when you go too :) )

I don't have a media source for this but you seem to be doing a great job getting your children interested in the potty. Since yo have let them know when you are going to the bathroom,do they come in with you? Let them. Then when you are finished ask them do they want to go and put their potty seat on. My son was allowed t come into the bathroom with me from the start so training was no problem/ Good luck. J. Gordon
