Looking for Reasonably Priced 1 or 2 Bedroom Condo in South Padre

My family would like to go to South Padre sometime in July or early August. We enjoy staying within walking distance of the beach, preferably in a condo with a pool. I checked into a few places (Saida Towers) and was amazed at how pricey they were. We have stayed in VERY nice 2 bedroom condos on the beach in Florida for less than $200 per night, but have not found anything affordable in South Padre. Even just to stay in a single hotel room (like Holiday Inn or La Quinta) was close to $200 per night or more and this did not include the high hotel tax. We don't need a luxury resort, but just need a clean, decent, comfortable place to stay that doesn't cost $400 per night.

I have not been to S. Padre in years. However, I have discovered a couple of websites that have made finding travel accomodations so much easier. The first is www.tripadvisor.com. You can find reviews (good & bad) from people who have stayed at various properties around the world. When you go to the website, search "S. Padre lodging." It will bring up choices for S. Padre hotels, specialty lodging (condos), etc. Make your selection & search the reviews. This site is especially good for hotels, but does have some condo reviews, too.

The second site is www.vrbo.com. This site lists condos, homes, etc. for rent by owner. Just click on the state then the specific area to find rentals where you want to go. We have used this site in the past, and just recently booked a gorgeous rental in Rosemary Beach, FL.

You can find all price ranges at both websites. Good luck; hope you have a great vacation!

I've found that vrbo.com and findyourvacationhome.com have been my best bets. I've actually been to south padre before, and found this to be a great deal for a 2-bedroom right on the beach: http://www.findyourvacationhome.com/find.php?property=504.... I like finding places with local owners, not through property management as they can be a bit more pricy and i little impersonal. Have a great vacation!! :)

Have you checked with a local relator? Or google for the Padre newspaper.

VRBO.com (vacation rentals by owner) can give you a lot of options.

This is a site to the condos we stayed in. They aren't the cheapest I suppose but they are right on the beach. we stayed in 304 or 104 bottom floor, to the left. It was pretty plain with a great view and steps from the beach.
I would also like to suggest riding horses on the beach; it was so fun.
