Have you tried tonic water or soda water and sugar free fruit juice mixed? That will give you the carbonation you want without all of the caffeine and sugar.
My husband and I are working on baby #2 and I am looking for ideas on what to drink other than just water. I have cut down on caffeine (I really like diet coke) and have changed to some caffeine free diet pop but understand that the artificial sweetners in most diet pop is not good. I like flavored water and things like crystal light or lipton tea packets that can be added to bottled water but what things should I look for to avoid. It seems when I was pregnant with my son this wasn't so tough nor were there so many choices of things to drink. I do also really like Caribou. What is ok there to drink or is having a latte or mocha once in awhile ok. I am lucky enough to be past the caffeine headache and not need something to drink for the caffeine. Thank you in advance for any ideas. Also, my husband is looking to cut down on the diet pop too (he drinks ALOT of diet pop) so the ideas could help.

Try those Emergen-C packets. The average cost is about 20 cents per packet if you buy a box (lots cheaper than pop or a Caribou drink). You let them dissolve in a glass of water. It gets fizzy, you get vitamins, but no caffeine.
It's a good idea to make a diet change together with your hubby! Glad he's willing to support you on this.
ive been drinking the bottled lemon water.oddly i cant stand lemonaide-but i really like this water-been trying to mix it myself-but cant seem to get the right balance...a bottle of diet coke lasts me 3 meals..20 oz....use to drink a case a day....i cant believe all these changes on having a baby now...can an cants-my daughters best friend is preg.i cant believe the stuff her dr cut out of her diet.wow-when i had my babies 28 yrs ago-i ate what i wanted-drank what i wanted(no booze)smoked 3 packs a day-i had extremly healthy babies....its just weird to see all the changes is all....good luck
The Izze's soda's are a good alternative, but water really is your best source. Izze's soda is carbonated and carbonated drinks, no matter if it is water or soda, inhibit your body's ability to absorb calcium well. I would just stick with plain old water or water flavored naturally with mint or lemon. Hint Water is a good brand for that.
It's not the end of the world to drink a can or two of pop a day during pregnancy. I did to help with my headaches. Right now I drink CokeZero tastes like the real stuff but has no carbs/sugar sure it has fake sugar but nothing is perfect except water. It's about taking things in moderation.
I had gestational diabetes during my pregnancies twice and was unable to drink anything with sugar, and had to really limit my milk. If you dig deep enough and look there are ton's of products out there that are low in sugar or have no carbs and aren't that bad for you.
Flavored Water
Gatorade has a diet version I love it, no sugar or very little
Juice (walmart brand carries a apple juice that is light has so much less sugar)
Milk (lots of diff.flavors these days)
Crystal Light
There is a orange juice that has very low sugar/carbs it's one of the namebrands hard to find but walmart has it
Minute Maid sells like fruit punch, limeaide premaid over by the dairy isle and they have some low sugar/carb ones too. I just tried a raspberry one that was ok.
At Caribou you can order almost all of their drinks decaffinated and skinny. As far as diet drinks, I was told to avoid any diet beverages or foods that contained aspartame. Look for a warning on labels that have a warning for phenylketonurics. If it has that warning it has aspertame. I think all diet pops have it and so does Crystal Light. I was able to find some flavored waters that didn't have at Target. Talk with your ob for sure about what is ok. Some say diet pop is ok to drink, some say to avoid that and any kind of unnatural sweetner.
I really like to soak fruit in water or ginger ale to make a flavored drink that was flavored a little more naturally. Plus the fruit has soaked up a lot of water and its really yummy. With ginger ale (or you could try soda water) I like berries and with plain filtered water I like to put citrus in.
I did drink some soda during pregnancy and even some coffee. Its not the end of the world if you indulge a little, just watch your caffiene intake.
I also did the juice, mostly cranberry juice. I was really into the sour type of taste around that time.
i drank a lot of juice that i watered down so it wasn't so much juice at once. it was tough with my son but by the time he was born i was so used to it i am back to an occasional pop but mostly milk and water.

I wanted to cut out the same things, also, and had a hard tome finding things that worked. I finally found Propel water, that tastes good. My favs are lemonade and raspberry lemonade. Also, if you want soda, rootbeer is one of the better sodas. No caffeine and the sugar is more gentle for your teeth than other sodas. Good luck with #2!!

Congratulations on the decision to go for number 2! I enjoyed Izze sparkling drinks while I was pregnant. They contain fruit juices and come in a variety of flavors. They are more expensive than pop, but your deserve a special treat during this time! I have also really like some of the sparkling lemonades. They come in glass bottles and I have bought them at Target and Cub.
It is always a great idea to avoid artifical sweeteners. They are really bad for you, but hard to give up. Neither of these options contain them.
Good luck with baby number 2!
You've already gotten some good suggestions and I don't have too much to add because I am not a soda drinker. But:
1.) My doctor assured me one serving of coffee/day was completely reasonable. Despite this, I cut out coffee for the 1st trimester and then again in the weeks before my due date.
2.) My favorite beverage pregnant or not is organic cranberry juice (not concentrate). I cut it with water as it is very strong. Some people find it too tart and add a splash of lemonade. Awesome for bladder health.
I drank a ton of Izzy (Izzie?) juice when I was preg. It's 100% juice but its carbondated so I didn't miss the soda as much. They have really nice flavors such as Blackberry and Clementine. There are a bunch of flavors but Costco usually has a case with 3 flavors for about $10.00.
Also, if you want Caribou just ask them to make your drink decaf.
Our family (husband, 4 year old, 2 year old, and myself) only drink water, water with a lemon slice squeezed in it, and milk. The kids do get 100% juice when they are sick, which is rare.
My husband and myself used to drink a can a pop a day each and then we were having trouble miscarrying and getting pregnant so we quit cold turkey. That was 3 1/2 years ago. We don't even miss it!
