Looking for Place to Donate Baby Gear

Hi Moms... I am looking for suggestions on good places to donate baby stuff (equipment, toys, clothes, etc). I am a mom of 3 kids with my youngest turning 1 year old. I would like to find a place to donate our used baby stuff. Would really like to find an organization that helps other moms in the area who are in need rather than doing a garage sale or selling it on craigslist, etc. Any ideas of good organizations? Would ideally like something close to Mountain View. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Off of 237 and 1st street in San Jose is Jubilee Christan Center. They have a Food and Clothing pantry open to the community. Hundreds of families including single moms come in on a weekly basis and get what they need. Pastor Michelle Bernal runs this program and they always welcome any kind of donations for this is a pantry whose goal is to have all that a family needs through donations.

Someone had mentioned this before, but freecycle.com would be a great site. If someone wanted the items, they could come to your house, or anyplace else that you would like to meet at, and pick up the items there.
I've had people just pick up things from my driveway and it's worked really well.

I know you are looking for a place near Mountain View, unfortunately this place is in Santa Clara, but I think worth the drive. It is called "Kid to Kid", located at 2666 Homestead Rd. ###-###-####, Monday - Sat: 10am-9pm and Sunday 11am-6pm, they will give you cash for your baby items. I would call ahead to see if there are any items that you are planning on donating that they don't need. This is a new store that just opened in the last few weeks, but I thought it was great when I went to visit. Their website is: santaclara.kidtokid.com

Good Luck

Look up your local Social Services Agency online or in the phone book. Failing that, you can probably call the non-emergency line of your local Police department. Ask them for the name and location of a Women's or Family Shelter. The shelters don't sell it, and the people who come there really need the equipment.

Good Luck,
K.

You could offer it to another mom by using www.freecyle.com
You will need to sign-up but your offer goes to others (and thier friends) who really can use it.

One place that has several locations is Shelter Network. Closest to you might be Menlo Park. They help homeless families, and baby stuff is greatly appreciated. Here's their website:

http://www.shelternetwork.org/

There is a list of most needed donations on the website as well.

P.S. If you want to give a stroller or high chair, or anything a baby sleeps or sits in, you need to make sure it hasn't been recalled. The best website (all you need to do is print out a list from each category -- if your item isn't on there, they will be grateful for your donation) is

http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/category/child.html

You could also get a note from a police station or a fire house, who can check for you. Good luck!
