Infant/Toddler Toy and Clothing Donation in South Bay

Hi - We're about to have a 3d birthday party for my son, who already has more clothes and toys than he could ever use. I'd like to start a tradition of rather than him getting more presents, having guests bring toys/clothes/etc. to be donated to a worthy cause. As my kids get older, I think this will be really valuable for them, especially if we combine it with volunteering as well. I'd love recommendations for places in the South Bay that are doing good work and could put infant and toddler toys and clothes to good use. Thanks!

hi C....
i know whenever i've had extra time or extra stuff, i've always donated it to the local battered women's and children's shelter. it can be a bit of a pain to make arrangements, as they are leary of allowing outsiders in on there location, but if you offer to meet away from the shelter, they can be much more accomadating. check with social services, your phonebook, or the net for the battered women and childrens center nearest you. I would like to add this is a marvelous idea, and after just celebrating my daughters 3rd b-day back in april, here we are moving into july almost and she's still getting stuff from extended family, and she could not want for anything, she is a very lucky little girl who has more than she could ever need, and i just love this idea. simply beautiful!! kuddos to you C. your boiys have a wonderful mother with an enormous heart, and the are very lucky!!!
thanks for this great idea,
aline

Hi,

Jubilee Christan Center in San Jose has a Outreach Food and Clothing pantry for the community. They get hundreds of families in there weekly, and a lot of them are single moms. They try to have every need you can think of there for the people. Michelle is always doing things for the community. This weekend they are doing a homeless outreach and will be distributing clothes, food and bibles. They usually get their stuff from used donated items, it would be nice for the families to have somethings that are new as well.

They are located off of 237 and 1st street. 161 Nortech Pkwy. You can just drop off during pantry hours or you can contact MIchelle Bernal at ###-###-#### ext. 537 or email: ____@____.com

pantry hours: M, T, TH, F 9am -2pm - W 9am -6pm - S 9am -12pm

God bless,

You may be able to donate to a foster youth program. The kids usually go to their foster destination with nothing, and most times when they are moved, they again go with nothing. It would be a joy to them to have something of their own. Contact Social Services.

I'm not up on the clothes donations, but my daughter has been to a few parties where they have requested books for donation to their public library. I guess the mom checked in with the librarian to find out why books they could use, and the mom put out a list. We all bought books from the list. It was a large, general list, like Amelia Bedila series, Magic Tree House series, etc.

What a wonderful idea! AS a child I remember being so impressed with a Shirley Temple movie where she gave gifts on her birthday to all the guests..I think that it is a good idea for children to start early to think of the needs of others. And this is a generous age to start this tradition. Good for you!! N.

We do a toy drive just prior to my kids birthdays and then ask for "no gifts" on their party invitations. We donate all the toys to Lucille Packard Children's Hospital. If you call, they will provide their wish list. They saved my son's life and his health is the greatest gift our family could ever ask for. :)

We also donate new items to Innvision, the family shelter in San Jose. http://www.innvision.org/how2help/d2.php

HI C.,

My daughter donates all my granddaugthers clothes and toys to the Sacred Heart Church on the corner of Alma and Monterey Road in San Jose down the street from the DMV.

They will also give you a blank receipt for tax purposes. I think you are to write in the amount you feel the items are worth.
