Have you tried a VFW hall? If all you need is the room that might be your best bet. Good luck.
Hi there,
I'm matron of honor for a wedding & am looking for a place to host the shower. I am flexible with locations as long as it's not more than 20 miles away from downtown. I am trying to keep it inexpensive, so I'm asking my fellow moms to give me a hand. Any places that are decent & fairly inexpensive? I'm finding banquet halls are asking for $15 a person or more... on my tight budget, I can only afford to invite ten. Need a place that can comfortably seat 40. I have a great caterer in my family, so I really need a place to host. I've checked w/ the Park District & all seem booked on my preferred dates.

I can tell you that VFW halls will cost a couple hundred. I tried them for my daughter's first birthday. You could try YMCAs or churches. I had my daughter's party at the YMCA in Berwyn and I paid $135 for the room for 3 hours. They setup and cleanup--though we pretty much left it clean anyway.

Could you try a church? Alot of churches allow you to borrow one of the rooms for a few hours. We also had a family members shower at a retirement home. We used one of the large family/lounge area which had access to the kitchen and it turned out very nice. Good Luck
