We just had to switch our health insurance, so I'm on the hunt for a new Obgyn/hospital in the Chicago area. We have BCBS Blue Advantage HMO. I am struggling to find someone. I delivered my daughter at Northwestern and had a great dr so I am nervous about finding someone just as great, and also a great hospital to deliver future children! Anyone have this insurance and have a great dr?? Any suggestions would help me!!

What can I do next?

We just had to do the same switch at the beginning of the year, and I was extremely concerned b/c I also had delivered at Prentice and love my old doc... That said, I have gotten some good recommendations from friends - Dr. Jacob Saleh works out of Evanston Hospital and comes highly recommended by a friend who delivered with him. I went to see him for my annual exam and he was great - and his nurse is fantastic. Actually, it turns out that he had trained my old doctor... small world! I will likely have my next baby through him.

Since I live in Lincoln Square, I am also going to set up an appointment with the midwives group at Swedish Covenant because I've heard amazing things and I live about 5 minutes from there... Seems like that will be a bonus since I'll have my son at home whenever I end up having our second babe. At Swedish, I've also gotten recs for Dr. Maureen Brennan and Dr. Therese Wos.

One last recommendation from a friend that I can pass along was Dr. Amy Hoffman at IL Masonic. She had a great experience with her.

If you are looking for a pediatrician, I can recommend my son's doctor, Andy Sagan. He used to be the director of a big practice at Northwestern and is now the director of pediatrics at Swedish Covenant. I love that he has so much experience, and continues his affiliation with Children's, so if anything ever happened with my son, that's where we'd go. Some people don't like his style (very direct and opinionated), but for my peace of mind, I can deal with his personality (and I actually like him for it!).

Good luck - you'll find someone you love!

We have a Great Family Doctor. Dr Maxouris at swedish cov't. The office handles the referral's excellently. Even when you run out... they can usually push it for extra appts. She actually is a teacher at Northwestern. Both my boys go to her. My first son has failure to thrive and she intervened early and got us to all the specialists.

Also for ObGYN Dr Wos or Dr. McDermit(male) or any other Doctors in her practice are pretty decent. You can get referrals from her to go to diagnostics/genetic counseling at Northwestern. Possibly could get you into delivery at Northwestern by referral. I believe she may be part of Northwestern too,

The NICU At Swedish is great...Staffed by doctors from Children's.
The Delivery unit at Swedish is Awesome too... The Recovery rooms are excellent and private.
Sometimes they get a little overbooked during deliveries.

I also have the BlueAdvantage HMO-which I'm sure you know is different than the regular BCBS HMO. Basically, we get an even smaller pool of Drs. to choose from. I had delivered my 2nd at Lutheran and while I loved the experience, I found that none of the Drs. take our insurance. I have ended up at a practice in Skokie (right next to Skokie Hosp.) called Comprehensive HealthCare for Women. The practice has 3 Drs. and I have seen all of them and feel extremely comfortable with every one. They have never rushed me and will answer all of my questions. I f I have ever felt something was amiss with this pregnancy, they have chosen to err on the side of caution and send me for an extra ultrasound, or test, etc. The office staff is pleasant and I've never had to wait longer than 1 time for 20 minutes. The Drs. deliver at Evanston Hospital- I had never been there before but had to go to see a Maternal-Fetal specialist and WOW! I was super impressed. I actually can't wait to have my baby there! This is my 3rd pregnancy and I can honestly say I have never felt so comfortable or felt like I was getting better care than with this one.

PS- I was interested in what the previous responder had said about a Dr. @ Lutheran taking our insurance so I checked out their website and, unfortunately, they do NOT accept the Blue Advantage.

I have gone to Dr. Nash at Lutheran General for YEARS and met all of the doctors in the practice. Dr. Sum actually delivered my son. They are WONDERFUL and I can't say enough about them.
I love Dr. Nash and he'll be delivering my daughter in August. I also have BC HMO, and they take it.

I can't recommend them more!
