Hi Di-

I live in Blaine and have participated in ECFE classes. We really enjoyed them a lot! The summer catalog will be available sometime in May, I think. Call the school district to get on a mailing list. Otherwise, this link takes you to their website https://ahconnect.anoka.k12.mn.us/Default.aspx?_body=Comm...

We took swimming lessons through community ed and I wouldn't recommend it. The pool was FREEZING cold. I know some people who do lessons at the Foss Swim School (in Gold's Gym) and they like it, but I hear it's pretty spendy.

Adventure Park is a good place to go, but I don't know how old your child is. Check out: http://adventureparkinc.com/index.cfm

We just came back from storytime at the Northtown Library, but your child has to be 2 to attend that.

There is a Moms Club of Blaine, but I've never attended any meetings. I did see a schedule of activities and it was fairly extensive.

Good luck! We're always looking for more activities too.

Here's the website for Anoka Community Ed. They have most of what you're looking for.

Hi,

I'm glad you ask this question cause my son and I have some experience with this topic. We were also looking for these resources when we first moved into the area and now we are so busy with all our ECFE classes, playgroups, swimming and mom activities that we rarely have a dull moment.
The ECFE for Anoka Hennepin is top notch. We go to one every session. We made great friends there and the kids learn a lot. They also have playtime which is awesome. They have one tomorrow (Thursday) in Andover just past Hanson Boulevard on Bunker Lake that is great. You pay 2 dollars and get to play for an hour and a half. They have free play and 15 minutes of circle time at the end. There's an area for infants too. My son (almost 10 months)loves it. We also take swimming at the YMCA in Andover. It's only $10 if you're a member. They meet once a week for 30 minutes for 7 weeks. If your child is an infant they just sing songs and do some excercises to get them used to the water. It makes a difference cause we were just in the Caribbean and my son was splashing and kicking freely in the ocean. Plus his baths are a breeze.
Storytime is also awesome in the district. We go to the Family Storytime at Rum River in Anoka on Tuesday nights. It's great and babies are completely welcome. There is also a baby storytime at the Mississippi Branch. Check, www.anoka.lib.mn.us
I also belong to a mom's group that is really cool. It's nothing like the Mom's Club. There's a lot of issues with that group. We're a group of pretty much first time moms with kids under 2. We get together weekly for playgroups and we also do other activities with the kids. Like this week we're going to the zoo. It's all about the babies. We meet in different homes or the library or other places. I think tomorrow we're meeting at Radio Disney in Northtown Mall. We're mostly all stay at home moms, but there are also a few that work part time and full time. We also discuss a topic of interest like feeding, sleeping, exercising...etc. We're very laid back. We also have a monthly moms night out where we get together to relax while our hubbies are babysitting. Last week we had a Chocolate and Martini party.
Well, let me know if you're interested or have more questions. I'm glad to help. I know how it is. Take care.

I'm not sure about the ECFE (never done it myself), but for the swim lessons and stuff, check out the YMCA. I go to the one in Shoreview and have made some good friends there and will be starting swim lessons for my kids (15 months and 3 yrs) once it geta a bit warmer. A great mom's group is MOPS I'm pretty sure there is a group in Blaine, I just don't know which church. You can go to www.MOPS.org and find it. Hope this helps.

Hi Di,

I was just searching for info on some of the same topics and here's what I think might help:

1. Mom's Groups - I happened upon a site called meetup.com and found a great local mom's group (you can search by zip, subject, etc.)
2. Check your School District or County/City Community Ed web site - ECFE classes are usually listed on there.
3. YMCA's have classes (I took my 2-yr old daughter, but the class wasn't composed of anything I couldn't have done at an open swim myself). I've also checked in to Foss, but they're spendy.
4. Everything else...I'm addicted to twincities.babyzone.com - there's a calendar on the site and the local parent resources cover everything (Family Fun topics for things to do).

Hope this helps!
