Hi there - after hitting my 30's and having my daughter, my dark circles are getting harder and harder to hide. My moisturizer isn't working anymore and my concealer looks flaky/cakey. I am wondering if anyone can recommend a good eye moisturizer and concealer for dark circles?
Hi D.. I see the Mary Kay girls have hit you hard, lol. I always found their products to be too harsh for me, same with Oil of Olay. I suggest you find a BeautiControl consultant and look at their line of products. They have lots to choose from, aren't nearly as pricey as a lot of the other products mentioned on here and the consultant can help you find the perfect product.

Wow!! You have lots to choose from!! LOL!
But from my personal experience, I have tried all of the above! MaryKay, BeautiControl, Arbonne, AVON, Oil of Olay.........I do have to say that my first choice would be Arbonne, fantastic product, can get a little pricy but totally worth it! BeautiControl would be my second choice.......MaryKay....I used to be a consultant and stopped as I found it didn't work with my skin problems.....but who's to say it wouldn't work for you.......I have been using AVON's Anew line and I love it!! I have problems with brown aging spots along with my dark cirles and I love their line!!
I'm 39 yrs young and am told I don't look a day over 30!!! I'm a single mom of two boys and a 1yr old granddaughter!! =D
Good Luck!

Dear D.,
Dark circles under the eyes are normal are due to thin skin that allows light to shine through and reveal your orbicularis oculi muscle beneath.
Treatment is either by topical concealer (makeup) or by using injectable natural fillers such as Restylane. We offer this service at my office. Feel free to contact Jennifer Constantine, our Aesthetic Nurse Specialist, to schedule an appointment to investigate this treatment further. ###-###-####.
I'm not going to be one of the people who see this post and are like "SELL SELL SELL!!" If you have a mary kay consultant, ask her about this stuff, it really does work!I use a MaryKay moisturizer and a facial highlighter rather than a concealer. I also use their eye revitalizer. I have had bad dark circles since I was little, and the highlighter and eye revitalizer are the only things that help. If you have questions or need help, and don't have a consultant go to www.marykay.com/prbeach to look at it.

HI D.,
My skin totally went weird after my last pregnancy. I have tired so many things out there, Avon, Mary Kay, Murad, Proactive, etc. Everytime I found something that was working well the company stopped making it. It seems that every moisturizer breaks me out or makes the pimples I do have look 100x worse. Seems that lots of the moisturizers out there have other jobs besides moisturize..puff up the lines, help the bags, etc. Seems to me they are drying agents. My friend was useing something she loved and on the serface her skin looked moisturized but her facialist told her is was drying her skin out. So after all that rambling...I am using Victoria Jackson moisturizer (something I origionally tried at 16). As for concealer; Avon stopped making my favorite one...so I again went out on a search and I don't like the cakey liquid look...my acne can't take it either. I tired several of the expencive mineral make up Bare Minerals, Christina, Glow Mineral, etc. My end result is Bare Minerals for concealor and Avon Mineral Foundation. Just remember that our diet and life style can play a role in how our skin looks. Are we eating well, drinking enough water, etc. Also as we get older our hormones change and play a big role in our skin changing. Good luck to you.

Arbonne products are GREAT!! It is a swiss company that carries botanically based products. Arbonne products are PH correct, Dematologist tested, formulated without mineral oil or dyes or chemical fragrances. Arbonne also has the vegan seal of approval, so no animal testing or animal product or by-products. Best of all--they really work. I would love to send you a sample of our anti-aging skin care which includes the eye cream (great for dark circles, puffiness and bagging). I can also send you a catalog of over 400 products, including a fantastic make-up line with a cream based concealer that really does the trick for those toublesome areas. My email address is ____@____.com, if you would like to email me your mailing address--I'll send you a little Arbonne package!!

I use Burt's Bees "Repair Serum with Attar of Rose", and Burt's Bees "Royal Jelly Eye Cream".
Also placing coin cut cucumber (cooled) over your eyes will help the dark circles go away as well. The vegetable has a very high water, silicon, and sodium content which helps soothe and cool eyes. Cucumbers aid in toning and firming the skin while reducing effects of lifestyle stress. The sodium content helps draw excess water from the tissue surrounding the eyes, reducing puffiness.
Directions: Cut slices of cucumbers and place on bed of ice. Relax with eyes closed and place a cucumber slice on each eye. Rest for ten minutes with the cucumbers in place.
Hope this helps!

Hi D.,
La Mer makes a great new eye cream, but it's a tad pricey. My suggestion is to use ANY moisturizer, just be sure to use it consistently (day and night). Also, if your concealer is dry and cakey, you may be using one that is just a little on the dryer side to begin with. As a make-up artist, I always encourage clients to use a waterproof viscus product that goes on smooth and in a thin layer. A great one is the waterproof concealer from Lancome. It's called Effacernes.
Good luck!

Dear D.:
I manage a medical spa in Redding, CA and we have a couple of excellent pharmaceutical grade products which you might consider. One is a decircling serum ($46 retail for .5 oz pump, should last 3-6 months). Highly concentrated; I use it morning and night when I notice dark circles and dry skin forming around my eyes. Very common for me now with running a farm and building my own holistic line of products for people and pets! In any event, the other product is our ultra gentle eye cream ($16 for 1 oz jar, should last 6 months or more). Again, I'm using this product for extra hydration for fatigue and to combat the extra dryness that I experienced this winter. I also use it to treat other areas of my face that are showing exceptional dryness (around the mouth, lower cheeks). For all over deep hydration I am using our Moisture Infusion Creme Masque, which is a leave-on product to seal in extra moisture. I also make a moisturizer in my Essential Oil personal product line ($15 for 2 oz jar). Please let me know if you'd like any other information. Wishing you a quick resolution to your matter. V. Hi D.,
This is a wonderful group, you now have lots of tips and choices! I'd like to add another option no one has mentioned ~ our bodies are bombarded daily with stress, environmental toxins, chemicals in food and bodycare products. We try hard to eat right and get enough sleep to look our best. Try switching over from processed foods (if you eat them), to certified organic, whole foods. Your body will benefit from the increased fiber and antioxidants in whole foods. Slow down, take time to cook with your family (you will be teaching & giving your daughter an invaluable gift), read labels and avoid synthetic chemicals.
For a moisturizer and concealer that really works great and looks natural, try the Miessence certified organic line.
Miessence organic facial moisturizers include one for oily skin, normal/combination skin, sensitive skin and dry/mature skin. Here is a link to the "Rejuvenating" moisturizer for dry skin ~
Miessence products are not only natural and effective, the line has been certified organic to food standards! If you are concerned about toxins in beauty products (which can actually make you look worse in the long run) check out any product at the Environmental Working Group's site, in their Skin Deep report http://www.ewg.org
Hi D. I am a Mary Kay skin care representative I would like to talk to you about our products. We have a very good moisturizer and eye conceler. Call me at ###-###-#### or e-mail me at ____@____.com to hear from you soon. W. Eaglin Kelley

Facials, lots of moisturizer, try a different brand, and I love and swear by MAC & Clinique. A bit on the pricing side but they have always worked for me. You've got to find what works for your type of skin. What works for me may not work well with your skin. but first and foremost, I would suggest a very good facial, get all the toxins out and replenish the vits and natural oils in the skin. See what the estitician has to say. Good luck.

Hi D....
My sister used to be an aesthetician and told me the best thing to do from a nutrition perspective is to eat the pith of citrus foods like oranges (the pith is the white stuff behind the outside peel layer, easily scraped off with your teeth). Apparently, pith has an abundant supply of vitamin k which is good for dark circles.
Additionally, awhile ago, i purchased some cover cream from DermaBlend for an ugly spot on my face that regular makeup did not cover. i found it works wonderfully as an under eye concealer for my tired, dark, new mom eyes. you can find it at http://www.dermablend.com/index.aspx
good luck!

Hi there, I agree with Glenna M. you need to get to the root of the problem however that may be and eat well. Looks like many people want to sell to you but the problem will still be there when the make-up is gone. Today Sunday the 6th on PBS Dr. Denese was on and was talking about dark circles and other issues of the face. She might be on again, don't know but it's worth listening to. I didn't catch it all, but I think she has good advice, she tells why things happen, not just the make-up treatment. Antioxidents are very good for the body, exercise, water and no smoking. Good Luck with your venture.....J.

sounds like you have many options to choose from to cover up the dark circles. have you considered getting to the root of the problem instead of hiding the circles?
i'm just learning about acupuncture and it sounds like you may have a deficiency. are you also tired, get short of breath, feel cold or have weak digestion? if so, you may want to see an acupuncturist who can recommend herbs and dietary changes that will help your body to be more balanced. then those dark circles may just disappear!
good luck to you,

Bare Escentuals has a product called "Well Rested". It's mineral powder that I apply before the mineral powder foundation and it works great! Go to one of the stores and get a makeover to test the products on your face. I use their product line now since it's all minerals, powder, hypo-allergenic (i have sensitive skin) and convenient! I used to use liquid makeup, I'll never go back to it now that I found a powder that's long lasting and it really does what it says - you won't look like you're wearing makeup! :)

Hi D.--I belong to a website/board called Makeup Alley and the girls on there swear by a brand called "Makeup Forever" and the concealer is "Full Cover in a Tube". If you go to Sephora, they will give you a nice sized sample to try out. I plan on going soon, it's just harder to get there since they moved the store all the way to the Summit Sierra Mall. You might consider trying Sephora though, they are very generous with samples and you could try them out without any pressure. Also, the most effective moisturizer I have ever used is Creme de la Mer. It is pricey ($100/1 oz) but it lasts forever. Check reviews online.
Hope that Helps!

Well, I'll tell you my recommendations. I'm 32 years old, and just had my third baby, and totally understand the skin issue. The moisturizer that I've been using is actually Olay for sensitive skin. And one of the best concealers that I've ever used is Vincent Longo and can be found through Sephora. Yes it's a bit spendy, but it lasts forever! I actually got a sample of it from them with the purchase of something else, and have been using it for three weeks and still have barely scratched the surface of the sample. It doesn't feel cakey at all, and blends beautifully. Good luck and hope this helps.

Geez, sounds like you've got tons of options - hah!! I'm 36 & I found success with Clinique's eye concealer. I'm sure it has a fancier name, but it's basically a concealer for things like blemishes, dark circles, etc. I LOVE it because I hardly have to use any & it covers great - all day long - no flakes. I don't have a recommendation for a moisturizer but I've used MK in the past & remember liking it. Good luck!
ETA: I just started using Mary Kay's Time Wise Targeted-Action Eye Revitalizer - a-ma-zing. Seriously. Like 2 days & I noticed a HUGE difference. It has retein A in it which sluffs the dead skin off 24 -7. Soft, thin and shinny. Also I use Netrogema'smakeup rempval twoels and it dissolves all makeup and leave s sfot feeling when done. I have found the the more you mositure you eye sockets blended with a bit of liquid foundation works the best for dark cirles. THe key is to not allow that area to look dry but moist. Concealers are not mositurized and will not enhance and dry the problem areas. I buy 2 eye cream an dkeep one in my purse to apply lightly throughout he day for a dewey look. Also, if you should desire to try a few barnds, explain to the counter help that you would like them to apply the product to wait for the day, and then you decide if it suits you. If not move on to another. I wear foundation Este Lauder and Mac combined...Also Roc is comprabble to Guerelein "which is $75.00 and up while Roc is $19.95 at Longs Drugs. Cle de Peau with a wide concealer brush. Pricey, but lasts for ever (only need a teeny bit) and gives good coverage yet is creamy enough not to cake. I've tried dozens of products over the years for hereditary circles, and this is, by far, the best for people who look like they've been punched. There are other products for people with avg circles. For the hardcore circles, Cle de Peau is worth every penny. It's a bit hard to find, and you definitely want someone at the counter to help you find the right shade. I have found it at select Bloomies, Saks, and Neiman Marcus. I'm not sure if I've seen it at Sephora. I also use a colorless primer a few minutes ahead of time so that the concealer will glide over (and not into) fine lines. I use Bare Escentuals Prime Time, but there are others. Good luck!

I use all Bare Essentials products and have been very happy. I find if I just use a little of the concealer, then apply the rest of the makeup you hardly see the circles. My skin has really improved too! Hardly any breakouts! Good luck.

Hi D.,
I too have terrible dark circles. Most dark circles are hereditary and can't be helped with fancy creams. I worked for Sephora Corp for years and have tried every cream and concealer out there. I hated most concealers because they tend to crack and made me look older, god forbid. My only saving grace has been Bare Minerals. You use it on your whole face and then apply it to the dark patches with a special concealer brush. It's awesome, it lasts forever and it doesn't flake or clump. You can buy it at Sephora these days or online or through the infomercials. I wouldn't try it for years because I don't trust anything that is sold via infomercial, but this stuff is really great and people are constantly commenting on how great my skin looks!
Hope this helps,
V.

Just wanted to give you the link for Arbonne's eye cream so you can take a look at it for yourself.
