My seven-year-old daughter tried gymnastics for almost a full year with little progress. She is really into dancing and we are looking for a school that teaches different types of dance, not limited to ballet. I am not too meticulous of the distance I would have to travel but would like to stay in the immediate surrounding suburbs.

HELP!!!

What can I do next?

C.,
My girl's and about 5 other little girl's in our neighborhood go to Dance Authority. It is here in the Yukon area. It has mostly jazz, hip hop, pom pom, and a little bit of ballet and tap. This will be our first year there. We went to the Academy of Dance last year and I was very unhappy with the way things ended also. I then went to my neighbor's little girl's recital for Dance Authority and I was totally blown away by the time and energy and effort that was put into that recital it was like attending a professional dance recital. Check it out. I think they have a website.

hello my name is T. Miller, I also have a child around the same age 7! She wants to do the gymnastics thing too. I havnt tried any of them.

I was wondering who you used before?

I am looking for her to start something like this so if you find one that she likes please keep in touch. My personal email is ____@____.com or you can keep on touch here at mamasource. Thank you..I will also do the same if you would like. I have called several over the past couple of days. I found one that is $30 enrollment fee and $37 per month/ per class. The class is only one time per week. Just seems like alot of money for one class, but if this is normal please let me know.ITs Greatly appreciated.

I don't know of a good one but I was going to warn you about 5-6-7-8 studio. My 3 year old daughter went through the summer program there this year and I was very unhappy with the way the teacher treated her. We were able to go in and watch during the last class and she started out by embarassing her in front of all the other children and their families. Needless to say my daughter completely froze up and was upset the entire time. I would not recommend that studio to anyone.

Hi C.!

Check with Oklahoma City University's Dance Dept. I'm actually an alumni that went through that program but I graduated 11 years ago. They specialize in tap, jazz, ballet and theatre dance. I know they could recommend some great studios in your area. Good luck!

Dynamo Gymnastics (NW OKC) & Oklahoma Gold Gymnastics (Edmond, OK) are both supposed to be really good as far as gymnastics go. However, Oklahoma Gold does have "Recreation" classes which are dance/gymnastics combo. I have met the owner of Oklahoma Gold, Steve Hoehner, before on several occasions - he's a great guy! I've also heard outstanding things about OKlahoma Gold and my husband works down the street from there and says that place gets crazy & is ALWAYS PACKED!! Something good must be going on in there!!
Here are their websites:
http://www.dynamogym.com/
http://www.oklahomagoldgymnastics.com/

For dance, music & theater, look at Judy Rogers Performing Arts Studio (Edmond, OK): http://www.jrogerspas.com/

Good luck!
