Looking for Childcare near SMU Area

I work near SMU and am looking for reliable/economical childcare (for infant) within reasonable driving distance of that area. The Highland Park/University Park prices are too steep for me. I have just started looking into childcare and feel that it would be better to get word of mouth referrals rather than just going through the yellow pages. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

S.,
There is a child development center as part of my church (Christ Lutheran Church) which is located very near SMU at 3001 Lovers Lane. The rates are comparable to what I've seen in Carrollton. Below is some information I cut and pasted from our church web site. You can also go to www.clcdallas.org and click on the link for the child development center on the right-hand side.

I do not have a child there (not born yet) but others I know really like it.

Hey S., I don't know anyone in that area but I do know a couple of friends who live in The Colony with little ones who I could ask about who they use if you decide to find something in that area. I have a daycare in McKinney so thats too far but you can go on the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services website and you can get a list of registered home day cares in your area. These homes are licensed with the state, have had background checks, are inspected and expected to maintain some min. standards in order to keep their licenses (CPR certified, etc.. A lot of these people have been doing it for awhile, so just make sure to get referells from them of parents of kids they currently watch and those in the past. Hope that helps, let me know if you decide to look in The Colony and I'll see what I can find. A.

Look for something along your commute. Also, I've found that economical and reliable don't coexist in childcare. If your childcare is a bargain, well, you get what you pay for. What we did with our first baby is look hard at the budget to see the maximum we could afford and still justify a two-income family. After that we were able to concentrate on other aspects of different daycares and preschools. We didn't want money to be the deciding factor (it's our child, after all, not our dog). We found a montessori school in Corinth that we loved and just happened to be $100/month under our maximum childcare allowance. However, when baby 2 came along, we gave up and I quit my job.
Good luck!

S., You might want to check out Childtime in Plano. They are between Coit and Ohio. They are almost in Frisco.I have several friends with children that go there. They are always talking about how wonderful the school is. I have been up there myself and it's very clean, warm, and friendly. The infant teachers are older women and they have been at the school for a good while. The school is on Hedgcoxe and the number is ###-###-####. I think they would be close enough that you could drop off your baby and still have time to get to work on time. I think the hours are 6:30 to 6:30. Best of Luck, D.
