I think www.k12.com is great. It's very thorough and I've known many families who enjoyed it.
I am looking for an interesting, non-religious interactive online homeschooling program. I have tried Ablaze Academy and Time 4 Learning and was not thrilled with either. I need something that will keep my ten year old (4th grade) son's interest. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks!

Although I AM religious, I did NOT choose to homeschool because of that.
My sons use www.teachingtextbooks.com for their math. It starts with 5th grade (4th is in the works and will be out the early part of '09) and goes through pre-calculus, I believe. My 3 sons are already waaaaay past my mathematic level and never need my help (thank goodness)due to the excellent presentation of the lessons. I highly recommend it!!! You can do some sample lessons on their website. As far as any other online/computer based curriculum, I don't have any recommendations. I have heard k12 is good and works for some people, but you are still under the terms of the public school system (including TAKS). That is something I didn't want to deal with, so I never checked into that.
Good luck!
I am in the same boat. I love teaching my sons (5 and 2.5) but know I soon will need to find a something more complete. I am wary of the religious programs and don't want anything watered down.
My only suggestion is to check out this store in Lewisville. It is located on Main Street in the Old Orchard Shopping Center. It is called Homeschool Resource. (I believe) The offer classes (through a program they call H.O.P.E academy.) My children have not taken any there (I am a former Kinder teache so have not had the need) but their classes look good. They also have lots of programs for sale (used and new) that you can check out or get their advice on.
Hi D.,
There is a non-religious homeschooling group near you that would probably be a good resource to get recommendations on various programs. Check them out!
Good luck!
I'm curious as to why you don't just enroll your son in a public or private school? I ask this because you specifically request a non-religious program and every parent I know who has chosen to take on the difficult process of being both parent and teacher by homeschooling has done so because of religious (usually conservative Christian) reasons.
It seems to me the most interactive experience anyone could have would be with other people, other peers, something a computer can never provide.
Good luck to you!
I have used this online homeschooling program for 2 years and they are nationaly know. Connections Academy
