Looking for a Perdiatric Allergist

I turn to all of you moms again. In my past requests, I have discussed my sons milk and soy allergy. We were just recently told to stop all food again, as we found blood in his stool. He is just over 7 months and has been on solids for a month now. I am tired of the "let's try this and wait to see the reaction" method. My son has been on this earth for almost 7 1/2 months and has been in discomfort the entire time while the doctors play a guessing game. (Let me add, that I do really like our pediatrician. I just have to go with my gut here as a parent.) After seeing blood several times in his stool a couple of weeks ago, I called our pediatrician and our pediatric GI specialist. The pediatrician said no food for a month (strictly formula). The GI said no food for a week and then re-introduce each food he has had so far, one per week, testing his stool at the end of each week. Once we find blood in his stool we will know what he is reacting to.
My thought is that what if we find out he reacted to the squash, so we cut that out, and then 3 weeks later there is blood again... do we start from scratch again! Why in the world am I not seeing an allergist, who can test and specifically diagnose any allergies he has. I discussed this with the pediatrician and she said bc it is blood in the stool it is still a GI problem. An allergist would want to see something along the line of hives or breathing problems.
I am going to follow my instints, and call an allergist. Even at the very least, I'll hear the same thing my pediatrician said, but I'll feel like I am trying to do everything i can to take care of my son.
We live in Gloucester County, southern New Jersey. Has anyone see a pediatric allergist in this area, and can anyone recommend one? We currently drive over to Philly to see his GI specialist, so that is not a problem either. I appreciate anyone taking the time to read tis and any responses I get.

What can I do next?

CHOP is the best for everything child related. They are proactive and they will send you to ten doctors if necessary to rule out everything. I found five allergist on there site http://www.chop.edu/consumer/search/directory_page.jsp
All of there areas of study as well as there education are availabe on that page. Also when my son was little he also had stomach problems. Me and my ped (chop ped) agreed we needed a plan of action instead of trail and error. She set me up with a social worker at CHOP and they arranged appointments, phone conferences, and emotional support. They were great, my little man is 4.5 years old and driving me crazy, but healthy with no issues except carrying and epipen. The hospital info is Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia, 34th and Civic Center Blvd, Philadelphia, PA 19104, ###-###-#### main #. If you like to talk or have any other questions email me. Good Luck!

Have you considered going to CHOP. When my daughter was a yr old she started to develop breathing problems, went to her pediatrician who was OK, but still no resolution. He sent us to CHOP and is was given appropriate treatment/meds.

A completely different experience than our pediatrician visits. Good luck and sorry. It's so hard to see them suffer at that age and you hang in there!!!!

Hi, I went through the exact same thing with my middle son when he was an infant. I changed pedatricains with in my practice and he spent fifteen minutes listening me and his symptoms and told me he is allergic to all Dairy. Go see Dr. Erik Glasofer in Voorhees. Dr. Glasofer is very nice. He told me that he was to young for the skin tests but a simple blood test would really tell the tale at his age. (which by that time was around 6 months) He reacted to Dairy off the charts. (You would surprised how much dairy is in baby foods.) He has been taken care of my son for five years and has been wonderful. Once we began to talk to him and he began to treat my son, nearly every health problems which ranged from blood in his stool to constant ear infections and constant congestion in his chest went away. My son never broke out in hives as an infant he did have a lot of "baby acne" and the doctor said that an indication of something being wrong. I know how you feel we put my son through the upper GI testing and was fearing the worst but deep down I just knew that it was something else. Follow your instincts. Good Luck!

Hi C.,
I think that you may need to get a second opinion. Your sons milk and soy allergy may not be the cause of the blood in his stool. Not to scare you but it may be something entirely different. He may have a GI problem that has nothing to do with his allergies.

Hi C., I am so sorry that your baby is going through this. I am so glad he has a mom that will fight for him! I am even more glad that you are paying attention to your instinct. I found a website that may be helpful.
