Looking for a New (Protestant, Christian) Church

My husband and I are looking for a new church home after more than 11 years at our current church.

We are looking in the HEB, Grapevine, Irving, Colleyville area (we live in Euless). We would prefer a contemporary worship service, a congregation that observes communion often and practices baptism by immersion. We are looking to make close friendships with others in our stage of life; we are hoping to avoid the giant "mega" churches in the area.

If any of your congregations fit this description, drop me a line!

Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

C.~ Gateway would be a great place to try. We have several friends that are on staff there and they are all wonderful people. Plus you can't really beat Robert Morris as a preacher. It is huge, though. My husbands cousins go to Crossroads in Lewisville/Flower Mound area. They love it. It's not tiny, but it's a lot smaller than Gateway. Good luck!

Irving Bible Church! When we lived in Coppell this was our church home and we loved it (and miss it). It's located on Kinwest Pkwy in Las Colinas. You would exit off Beltline on 635 if you're coming from HEB/Colleyville.

Hi C.!

I would love to invite you to my church, Hackberry Creek Church, which is located in North Irving on 2000 Kinwest Parkway. My husband and I have been members there for over ten years and we just love it! It is a small, family oriented congregation.

Our contemporary service is at 9:00 am and the music is great! We have communion once a month on the first Sunday of each month. I would also recommend that you visit our "Home Improvement" Sunday school class. It is a great class for those of us who are in the middle of raising families :). Where we seem to be growing in our membership is with young families who have children just about your age so I think you would be able to connect with others very quickly.

In addition to Children's Sunday school, we also have a wonderful "Children's Worship" program for children aged 4 through second grade. Before the pastor begins his sermon for the morning, the children are dismissed to go to CW so that they can have their own special worship time (bible stories, singing and arts and crafts) and mom and dad can actually hear the sermon! We also have a nursery for the smaller kiddos. Anyway sounds like it might be a good fit for you. The church is located near Irving Bible Church and right next to Las Colinas Elementary School. Let me know if you have any other questions! Also, if you would like to let me know if you plan to visit and I will look for you. Blessings! C.

Richland Hills Church of Christ is huge, but its sister church, Legacy Church of Christ has been our church home for the past 7 years. It is getting bigger, but it is certainly not the size of Richland or Gateway by any means. Go to LegacyChurchofChrist.org and check it out. Up Davis a little further north is also an even smaller church. My children attend the preschool there (which is excellent), but I haven't gone to services there. Check out www.southlakechurch.org ...like I said, it is much smaller than even Legacy, and they all seem nice from my experience with the preschool. If you do try Legacy look me up:). My name is Loni Proctor and I have a four year old and a two year old, both girls.

You may want to try Pantego Christian Church. It is off 30 at Eastchase; North of CarMax and West of Sams Club. Services are Sunday 9 and 10:45 (both are contemporary). At PBC, our structure encourages community. If you visit, be sure to talk to a representative in the lobby, so he/she can explain the purpose of home groups and community groups and 'The Scrolls' (weekly take home Bible study that relates to the upcoming weeks service). I could answer questions as well. pantego.org is the website. I think we have about 1,500 regular attenders; something like that...
~K.
PS~the nursery is great...I know many of the coordinators and workers...great staff.
PPS~Reading back through the other replies...be careful to check out the belief of the church, that Jesus came to us in flesh and bone, and the Bible is complete an the inerrant word of God. (no other text is needed to complete the Bible.) Maybe you already know this, but I wanted to expess it anyway.

While it's a bit larger than what you have in mind, give Gateway in Southlake a try. We have been attending for several months and love it. Great activities for the kids during the worship service, awesome worship, communion celebrated once a month, immersion, Spirit-filled...and the people are great. We are going to look into joining a local small group, which is really the best way to make friends in a larger church.

I'm sure you'll get a lot of recommendations, as the Metroplex has tons of great churches. We love Irving Bible Church and have been there for about 7 years. It has the contemporary worship that you said you are looking for and lots of opportunities to establish friendships - through the Bible study classes, community outreach programs, MOPS, or the men's/women's ministries. We also have a 4-year-old who loves the children's program so much that she comes home and tries to teach her dolls the songs and the Bible verse for the month. :o)

I pray that you find the place that is the right fit for your family, too! :o)

Blessings on you and your family,
L.

Richland Hills Church of Christ (on NE Loop 820 at Meadow Lakes) has contemporary services on Saturday night at 5 pm and Sunday morning at 11:30 am and a traditional acappella service on Sunday morning at 9:00 am; Bible classes are Sunday morning at 10:30 am. We have communion weekly and practice baptism by immersion. We have Bible based teaching, a great children's program, wonderful adult Bible classes, small groups and many opportunities to get involved.

May I recommend you visit all the ones which have been recommended to you here, regardless of size, several times before making a decision? You just might be surprised by the experience. And, as has been mentioned before, be in prayer that God will lead you to where HE wants you to be.

Hi C.,
I think that it is so wonderful that there are people out there that want to attend church. I'm sorry that I don't know that area very well, but just wanted to encourage you to pray about it and ask the Lord to direct you to a Bible believing church where the preacher/pastor is not afraid to preach truth. Only the truth can set us free.

Thanks,

J.

Hi C.,

I saw you have already received a great many responses, but still would like to recommend my church. I attend the First United Methodist Church of Bedford and have been a member there for almost 2 yrs now. The very first time we went, we felt very welcomed and accepted and still do to this day. We practice communion the first Sunday of every month with services at 8:30 am and 11 am and Sunday school at 9:45. We have a wonderful nursery for the kids and once they're old enough for the Sunday School/Children's church there will be even more available to them. My church practices three forms of baptism with it being the person's choice as to which is right for them and full immersion is one of them. We would love to have you join our church family. Please let me know if you decide to come, I would love to have you sit with my husband and I.

Good luck and God Bless. Finding a church that really suits your needs is a difficult journey sometimes. I hope that God will lead you to the right one, even if it's not mine. =)

I am also going to suggest you give Gateway a try...We have been there for about 2 years and LOVE it! The Children's Ministry is amazing and it really does not take much effort to feel like you are part of a small family instead of a number at a huge church. There are life groups to meet new people and connect on a personal level and equip classes to help you in your walk. There are also a variety of services to choose from, on two different campuses so you can come at the time that works best for your family.
I know it is a serious decision, I would also suggest you try a few and really pray about it!
Blessings to you...

Hi C.,

I've been a member of Gateway Church in Southlake since 2004, and I've never felt out of place. The worship is contemporary and so filled with God's presence. Pastor Morris is amazing. I work in the Children's ministry and I love it there. My son just turned 2 but he was in the same room your 19mo old would be in and it is such a great room. We actually teach God's word to every age. We're not "babysitters". We do praise and worship with the children and they learn a lesson. You can watch Robert Morris on DayStar Thursday nights at 9pm or see his sermons online at gatewaypeople.com! Come and try us out, you won't regret it!

Hi there - well, I've been to several sized churches, and I always said 'I will never go to a big church, all you are is a number' - well, ha! I attend Gateway in Southlake - YES it's a mega church, but it doesn't feel like it. Go to Gatewaypeople.com...you can see Pastor Robert and listen to his messages. We have incredible classes for all aged kids, events, evening free classes for adults to strengthen their walk with God (I work the Kiosk tonite up there) - I'm a single mom, and recently plugged into 'life groups' or 'care groups' in homes. That's the key to getting involved. The smaller groups are like a family.
Don't now about 1st Baptist Grapevine, know people that go there, 1st Baptist Euless, there's an Assembly of God church on 121 and Cheeksparger that I never checked out. Gateway worship is like no other, singing and praising, clapping and worshipping. Check it out...

You are too far away to attend my church or I would happily invite you here. My comment is about you wanting to void mega churches. It is unfortunate that there is a negative connotation among some folks concerning bigger churches. I have been going to my church for over 15 years, since it was a one building church with folding chairs. Now, it is what some call a mega church. While I can understand some people walking in the first time and it seeming big and overwhelming, I encourage you to remember that the building is filled with individuals who are worshipping together and serving one God. Getting involved is the key, which God commands us to do. Fellowship is not found in the worship service in any church, large or small, it is found in the small groups, and Sunday school classes, that every church has. Anyway, I hope you find a new church home. I just didn't want you to miss out on a good church just because it may be big.

Respectively,
D.

Calvary Chapel in Grapevine is awesome. We visited there often before we moved to south Arlington. They have a solid biblical based teaching, contemporary worship but not the kind that makes you feel like your there to be entertained. They also have a great children's ministry staffed by their own members (not paid outsiders), and they teach the children the bible not just babysit them. I highly recommend you at least visit. You can find their address at calvarychapel.org

We have attended Irving Bible Church for the last 4 years, and we really love it. They observe communion once a month and baptise by immersion. They are a very open and welcoming church. I don't know if I would consider it a "mega" church, but it is large. Their childen's programs are great, and they have an awesome Women's Bible Study.
