I have a state farm life insurance plan. I like it. Financially sound and gives you a multiline discount on car insurance if you're with them.

We followed Suze Orman (Financial guru)'s advice and received quotes for Term Life Insurance from several highly rated companies through selectquote.com and accuquote.com. These sites will tell you the insurance companies' ratings (how sound the business is and hopefully likelihood to be around) and quote you their rates for your category (age, gender, time period...). This saves you a LOT of time to get the best rate from highly rated companies.

Here's the link to Suze Orman's short (less than 1 page) article on buying life insurance: http://www.oprah.com/article/omagazine/omag_200801_suze/1

I think it's critical that you get multiple quotes to comparison shop. Just because one company gave someone you know the best rate, does not mean that company will provide you with the best rate, that's not how insurance works. The good news is that once you decide on the best one for you, you lock-in the rate for the specific time period you're buying for.

Hi I work for Farmers Insurance. I would recommend a Flexible Universal policy. It remains in force until your demise that is if the premiums are paid. Term insurance is usually cheaper but that is because you purchase it for a term then it ends. If you get older and have to repurchase another policy it can be very costly or you may not even qualify if you have any major medical issues. Please call me at the office ###-###-#### if you would like to discuss it further A.

Hi, L. -

I purchased term life insurance from Hartford thru my local Edward Jones Investments office. I got a 25-year term renewable policy at a benefit of $750,000 for $700 a year. I'm 36 and in good health so this was a great rate. I used to work as an investment broker and am extremely pleased with both Edward Jones and Hartford. You can find a local branch near you at www.edwardjones.com. Good luck!
~ J.
PS - You don't have to have other investments with Edward Jones. If all you want is life insurance, then that's all you have to do. No extra charge for the policy by using them, commission is paid by Hartford.

You should talk to a financial planner about the options and your personal needs, because different products could be great for one situation and not ideal for another. Our financial planner is with Ameriprise Financial (Teresa Mandella in Stockton) and we're very happy with her advice--just remember that life insurance is one of the several components of your financial life, and they should all work together to fit your needs. Overall, you'll find term life to be the best deal and is most often recommended by honest insurance salespeople. Beware of anyone who tries to pressure you into a "whole life" plan...while they can be okay for some people in some situations, they're often not the best deal. You'd usually be better off buying term life and investing extra money on your own, if the investement/savings side of whole life is attractive to you. Good luck!

Hi L.,
We recently shopped around for life insurance and AAA had the best rates - we have no other policies with them. The kind of life insurance you want depends on your needs. Term life insurance is just that, it's for a specific amount of time, like 5-10-15 years. That's a good plan if you think you would need extra coverage during that time, in addition your a "regular" life insurance. My hubby and I both got life insurance plans (standard, which is more monthly, but the rate is locked in) and then we thougth if anything were to happen to him in the next 15-20 years, we'd still owe quite a bit on our mortgage (and kids schooling) so he took out an additional term policy that would basically cover the amount we owe on the house. It's best to talk to some kind of financial planner (ours helped us kind of figure out how much we'd need our policies to cover) or someone similar. Good luck with your quest.

Dear L.,
As an insurance agent, I can tell you that life insurance is a very important and very multi-faceted venture.
I want to say that I am not working right now while recovering from a broken leg, and I have no desire to promote myself right this minute.
But, you need to speak to someone who can give you details about your different options and quotes, etc. The amount of insurance you purchase depends on your needs....what you need to replace in the event of a death, or, how you can use life insurance as an actual investment. It also depends on your health history, etc.
There is term life, whole life, universal life, return of premium life (if you don't need the death benefit within a specified amount of time).
You need to contact a professional that can go over all of that with you. A carrier that works for one person may not be the best for another.
I am in a completely different area than you, but I do know that James Bralley at Interlink Financial Group in Fair Oaks is a wonderful advisor.
Check around before you decide.
Customer service is the key, because if they are good to you prior to getting your policy issued, they will be good to you afterwards.
Just a suggestion.

Best wishes!

Wow L., you have alot of responses to your request for life Insurance... Have you contacted any of them yet? I replied to you earlier, but it does'nt look like it went through... I dont want to compete with any of the other ladies that offered you a quote on life Ins., but I work for Allstate Insurance Company and we have a guy that has been doing life for 25 years! He really knows his stuff. I can set up a phone appt for you if you'd like for a free consultation.
My understanding is, no matter where you go, your medical rating is going to be the same, so your price is going to be similar where ever you go. You should go with whom ever you feel comfortable with, but I would recommend talking to our Life rep and going from there...
Allstate is a strong "A" rated company and they/we have great products!
I wish you alot of luck! I know how hard it can be with trying to find a company you can trust...
Let me know if I can be of help. My email is:

L.:

My wife told me about your post, and so I thought I would respond. However, I see now that you have had a number of great responses from people. Just in case you want another, here are my two cents as a financial advisor.
What is most important is that you figure out why you are buying this insurance. What do you want to cover: Stream of income, your mortgage, education for children, etc. Also, decisions on life insurance are a part of your overall financial plan. Make sure to talk with a financial services professional. I would suggest calling a few of the advisors who responded, if they are local.
Finally, and this is my personal suggestion: don’t make price a deciding factor. Most insurance companies are competitive, but really what is most important is the financial strength of an insurance company. AIG is a huge insurance company, and their policy holders are scared to death right now about their policies. You are deciding on something to give your family stability and peace of mind; don’t make that decision based on saving a few bucks a year.
In case you live in the Santa Cruz/San Jose area, feel free to contact me at ____@____.com or at ###-###-#### if you have further questions. If not, I can suggest some agents that live close to you.

Hello L.,

I recommend you speak to an insurance/broker company. Term life is ok, it is cheaper but it has a time limit. For example you can get a 10 year 1 mil limit, it ends in ten years and if you decide in ten years to get another policy you will pay the rates at that time for your age. Univesal Life insurance policies are for Life and it had many more benefits. I would talk to someone and ask about the pros and cons for each type of life ins. programs.

Good Luck

I strongly recommend contacting someone who sells insurance who can talk to you about your personal insurance needs. There are many products on the market and not all are perfect for everyone. I have two resources for you:
1. Milly Morelan of Morelan Insurance
1101 S. Winchester Blvd., Ste G173
San Jose, CA 95128
###-###-####
____@____.com
www.morelan.net
2. Paul Nadell of Investment Planning Associates
1101 S. Winchester Blvd., Ste D-144
San Jose, CA 95128
###-###-####

Milly only sells insurance and is extremely knowledgable. Paul has been our investment advisor for many years and can help you with your financial planning needs. He can recommend insurance products as well, but doesn't necessarily sell them. He and Milly are in the same complex and know one another, so you might be able to easily consult with each of them.

We just got life insurance last year through Liberty Mutual - call Mike Cosgrave at ###-###-#### x105 or ____@____.com's very patient and helpful. I can't remember exactly how much we pay, but it's worth it - and plus it's very different compared to your age, height, weight, etc., etc. I personally wouldn't consider any life insurance besides term insurance - we went with a 30 year term b/c we have an infant, but you can probably do less since your kids are older. Good luck!

My husband is a State Farm agent & I run the business with him. I just recently had our first child who is turning 3 months this week so I work from home now but if you want the ability to have someone come to you in your home (or you can go to his office in Fremont) he would ask you questions & complete a 'life needs analysis' to help you determine how much insurance you really need & want based on what you want to leave & for what reasons when you are gone. After you have decided on the amount, he will show you all the life policies available to you, run free quotes to give you an idea of what each will cost & you can determine what is the best fit. The best part is that he will do it all for free & no pressure to buy from us. We believe in helping our potential clients & established clients figure out what they need by educating them & then leaving it to them to decide. It's such an important decision to make so I give you kudos for beginning the process now, we never know when our time has come so getting something, anything in place now will leave your legacy with the money to bury you & to move on without financial hardship...his name is Kevin Jopes State Farm Agent our office number is ###-###-####. All SF agencies are run by individual business owners so I can't tell you what any other agent has to offer as far as service but ours does all we can to provide the best personal service possible that is why my husband still believes in coming to your home to help. (I don't know of any other people who do that now a days) Good luck in your decision, we hope to hear from you & if not I hope you get a plan in place ASAP for the sake of those you leave behind... peace of mind Take care.

HI L.,
My husband and I are financial coaches for Primerica. Our business handles many financial aspects of life, including life insurance. Our company recommends term insurance. We help you determine the amount needed by doing a Financial Needs Analysis. The analysis is customized to fit your situation and helps you decide what is right for your family.
While most financial planners charge as much as $1500 for the service we offer, ours is complimentary. We would be more than happy to answer any questions you might have or sit down with you and explain your options.
