Hi moms! My husband and I are moving to California next month, and we have a bunch of furniture that we will be donating before we leave. Since he's already living out there, we have replaced some stuff, and also have other things that we just don't need anymore. I was thinking of calling Salvation Army, since I know they do pickups, but I was wondering if any of you know of other charity's that do furniture pickup? I want to give it to someone who can really use it, especially since it's all in pretty good condition.

What can I do next?

IF you are in Charlotte- I would go with A Child's Place and the Salvation Army Women's Shelter-- they just bought Hall House in the Uptown (which used to be apartments for elderly persons) and they are furnishing apartments for homeless women with school-aged kids. I dropped off a bunch of our baby stuff and furniture (we just upgraded) last month and they always need more.

I really like donating to Crisis Assistance Ministry. They literally give the furniture away to people in need at a "free store". They do pick up. Here's their website: http://www.crisisassistance.org/index.php?src=

From their website: To schedule a donation, or to become a referring partner, contact Pete at ###-###-####, ext. 125, or ____@____.com.

Hi L., I'm not sure what area you are in, but you may want to check out Emergency Housing. Salvation Army and Goodwill are great, but there are many organizations that help families that are really struggling and can not even AFFORD to purchase from GoodWill or Salvation Army. Here in Charlotte, NC there is HALL HOUSE that specializes in helping HOMELESS children and families move to a stable environment. You can find it online at www.achildsplace.org They work with the Charlotte Housing Authority, CMS schools and others including the Salvation Army. What a GREAT thing to donate your stuff, **hugs** to you and good luck in your move!
