My daughter will be 5 years old on July 2nd and I want her to be fully safe in the water. Right now she doggie paddles across the pool all by herself but she will NOT go under water, she is afraid of it....I put her in a private swim class last week and the teacher pushed her head under water without telling her and now she is scared to go back to her and to go under water. I don't want to push her and now I just don't know what to do to get her out of her fear of the water. I really would like a one on one class or a class with my daughter and her friend because I think she will do better with her friend because they like to copy each other and help each other out. I think she needs the more one on one attention and someone she can trust and feel safe with. If there is any way anyone can help me out or if you know of anyone or place that can show anything for her not be afraid and do one on one or a class with her and her friend please let me know. I'd like her to go more then once a week too so she remembers what she learns. Any advice, opinions, info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, T.

I highly recommend Aqua-tots. Specifically request Mary Neuman. My kids totally enjoyed lessons with her and learned so quickly!

Hi T., I love my son's swim coach. Today is his last lesson, but I can ask if she interested in coaching some more. You have your own pool? She is borrowing a friend's pool for these lessons. She is very caring, and patient. She always counts to three so the kids know when they are going under.

Hope this helps.

Anna.

I'm sorry, I don't know any swim coaches. What about you and your daughter getting big goggles (lots of visibility) Show your daughter how YOU plug your nose and go under. Then pop up all happy and try to coax her to go under just a little bit with you and you two can look at eachother underwater? Make sure you "help" her keep her nose plugged, or be ready for her to lose her grip if she laughs. Make sure she is standing on her own feet in the shallow end when doing this. Or, what about getting her a snorkel to try?
