I'm surprised that they didn't want to see her with a temp that high. She's only six months. How is her temp this morning? If it's still high, I would call them back and fib a little. Tell them she's not eating as much as usual and that you'd really like to have her seen. You'll get some peace of mind.
It probably isn't anything serious. I always found it hard to decide if it was necessary to go to the doctor or not. Usually when I went they just sent me back home with the recommendation to switch between Tylenol and Motrin every 4 hours. My younger son had inexplicable fevers quite often as a baby but eventually grew out of it. If you are worried take her to the doctor even if it's only for your peace of mind.
Fevers are usually a sign of something brewing. If she still has the fever I would take her in. Does she tug at her ear? Even if she doesn't she could have an ear infection. Since your baby can't talk you need to investigate :)
I realize that you have already found an answer but anytime that you feel uncertain, don't hestitate to take your child in to see the doctor. I have never had a doctor or nurse make me feel silly for bringing in a child even if it is nothing to worry about. Better safe than sorry. Our longtime pediatrician always welcomes an opportunity to see our children. It is just another chance to check in. We probably will not be seeing a pediatrician for so many more years since our children are now 23, 22, 19 and 10. The older boys have already moved on to family practice. I still take our 10 year old to the pediatrician. Our pediatrician is great - talks to our son about what books he is reading, soccer and baseball. A pediatrician is a great partner in child rearing!
have them check her for a kidney infection
My younger daughter had those symptoms for YEARS and each time the fever went away so we didn't worry. Because the infections were in her kidney's not her urinary tract or bladder there was never any pain besides the fever related ones (when she was older, her kidney doc said her colic was DEFINATELY caused by the issues). She ended up losing a third of one kidney and a tenth of the other one cause the docs never took her fevers seriously and it wasn't until she was 8 that it was discovered that she had kidney reflux.
The reason the pain is random seeming is that the urine backs up into the kidneys over and over which doesn't bother them until it can't back up anymore and then it hurts.
SO, get a urine test done to rule that out. Not a reason to run immediately to the doc but get it checked out even if the fever breaks.
