I agree!! I have been buying the Target or Walmart brand refill that are sold in milk carton type containers. They smell like Downey and work well. I have also seen these type of refills at some of the "Dollar Stores" and they were name brand.

Hi D., This was online:

Here is a CHEAP and EASY alternitive to that pricy liquid fabric softner. This is a very simple solution that is certianly more natural than all the chemicals you are putting in your clothes with the store bought fabric softner and works even better! I got the hair conditioner on sale (really cheap brand) for .89cents, and of course vinegar is about $2.00 for the 1/2 gallon size so this is MUCH cheaper and "greener"!
Instructions
Difficulty: Easy
Things You'll Need
3 C vinegar
2 C hair conditioner (any kind)
6 C water
Steps
1Step One - in a sealable container (if you have a couple old liquid fabric softener containers, those work well), combine 2 cups hair conditioner (I use a regular sized bottle- a little less than 2 cups), 3 cups vinegar, and 6 cups water
2Step Two - mix all ingredients together
3Step Three - store in air tight container.
4Step Four - use same amount you would use with regular liquid fabric softener

Really easy, use the white vinegar as a softener and then use 10+ drops of your choice of essential oils... lavendar, orange, etc... adds a nice smell and a little goes a long way. Experiment on how many drops works for you.

White vinegar works well. Just pour it in your fabric dispenser instead of the softner. The smell doesn't linger in your clothes. I have a septic so I don't like to use to much liquid fabric softner. I use the least expensive dryer sheets and economize by tearing them in half for each load. The laundry comes out just as nice and I get twice the amount of loads soft for the money!

Hi D., I don't know of any home remedies, but I have found an awesome company where I purchase all natural products for up to 30% less than retail store prices. They even deliver directly to my door, so I don't have to go to the store for all my household necessities. Give me a call at ###-###-#### and I can share the company information with you. T.

I actually shop from an incredible company that helps me save money and get the chemicals out of my home! I get 192 loads from ONE bottle of laundry detergent (1/2 ounce per load of laundry), and 64 loads with my fabric softener (1/2 an ounce per load of laundry)! I help the environment with less bottles in the land fill and save money! If you'd like to know how you can save money too, just let me know and I'd be happy to share it with you!

I have the greatest home remedy!

I buy a bottle & it lasts at least 3 months!

I bought a WHITE wash cloth, I pour the liquid on the cloth & throw it in the dryer. never wash the cloth. I only put a quarter size amount on the cloth for each load. you will feel the difference & there is no static on my clothes & they smell great.
