I add vinegar to the wash. My son occasionally has night time accidents because he is a super deep sleeper. I add in about 1/2 cup white vinegar to the wash load . It smells when it spins the water out but does not smell up the clothes. One time the cat peed on a towel my daughter left on the floor in the basement and I let the towel soak in the washer with vinegar and it got it out.

White Vinegar. I use white vinegar on pet oopsies in the carpet shampooer, and in laundry, and to mop with. When I use it in the washer, I add two cups to a pre-wash cycle and let it sit. Then wash as usual with detergent and fabric softner. Incidentally... a few years ago one of my science students did her project on laundry detergent comparison... gain held its smell the longest, but Arm & Hammer got clothes much cleaner. She tested the same clothes over a six-week period. She tested Gain, Tide, A&H, and Cheer.

I use baking soda and white vinegar. I put it in when the cycle is about half finished (sometimes I stop the machine or restart the cycle with the same water to give it more time to agitate). The combo will make it foam, but your clothes will smell SO fresh and clean! White vinegar can also be used as a fabric softner....the smell goes away once the clothes are dry. If there is any way to put the clothes in the sun, it also helps. HTH ~ GL!!

Vinegar is great for pee odors from people and pets!! About a 1/2 cup to a full load or 1/4 or less for just a few items should do. I use mine during the rinse cycle when I have to wash something our cat had an accident on. She is old and has a weak bladder so sometimes she will have accidents.

I heart Gain. LOL! Gain (original scent) powder, liquid fabric softner & dryer sheets. My cloths smell delightful! Including the stuff my daughter occasionally pees & poos in.

I use Arm and Hammer detergent and sometimes baking soda and have not had a problem with lingering odor.

I don't think the soap matters as much (I use vaska and it works great) as using HOT water for the washing with whatever soap you choose.

I would use Sol-U-Mel. It is safe and it helps with both stains and odors.

I always rinse the clothing really well in hot/warm water right after the accident before I put it in the laundry. Then I use baking soda with whatever detergent I happen to have. Good luck!

I agree with so many of the other posters. Vinegar is an essential in my laundry room and kitchen. I add about a cup per load and do it for almost every load that has anything that might have been peed on. I also use it when I wash towels and underclothing and they come out smelling wonderful. This is on a different note but I was having problems with a white thick film on my dishes after having been washed in the dishwasher and ever since I started adding about a cup of vinegar to the bottom each cycle, they come out sparkling clean. Vinegar is wonderful, I buy in bulk! =)

I had the same problem with my son. Use white vinegar in the rinse cycle (put it in your fabric softener dispenser) and it works wonders to remove all sorts of smells and no your clothes will not smell like vinegar.

I use "Odoban". You can get it from Sams Club, Costco and Home Depot, and also on Amazon.
You can use it as a spray on carpets, furniture etc but also use it in the wash to freshen clothes.

We use the detergent in the big bucket from Costco, and it's always handled what son #2 can dish out. And man, does he dish out! His pull-up often leaks at night, so his sheets, mattress pad, and sometimes blankets smell like pee. He has accidents all day long, so his underwear and pants, and sometimes shirts, smell like pee. But not after a simple wash.

I agree with the vinegar.. I use that on most things that come in contact with pee.. I will use it on our cloth diapers about once every other week to knock the pee smells out of them.. I put it in where you put the fabric softner in.

Have you tried vinegar? It smells, too, of course, but the smell dissipates as things dry.
