Hey mom's
My son is so into Lego's, I have thought of taking him to Lego Land next Summer for vacation. I know it's a few month's away, but I need to get an idea of the cost. Where do you fly into, where to stay, what else to do while there. Any and all help/advice is appreciated.
Thank you,
L.

What can I do next?

i'd fly into and stay in san diego or la jolla(but that will be more $$$$), have no idea what you'll pay b/c i don't know how many of you are going or what type of hotel you'll stay at. we've been to legoland twice, it's SUPER fun, but for a seven year old, i'd only plan to do one day at legoland, much of it is geared for younger kiddos, but there is CERTAINLY enough for him to enjoy a full day. have fun!

You'd fly into San Diego or Orange County and will need to rent a car (30-45 minutes from either airport). There are some great hotels right in Carlsbad (Fairfield Inn etc). The Carlsbad outlet stores (off of 5 freeway between Cannon & Palomar Airport Rd) are great! Head to Ruby's Cafe (so fun) and have a 50's style diner lunch or dinner - have the balloon person make a free creation for your son (tips appreciated). If you'll be there two or more days - get a season pass - it works out to be the best deal. Also look on ebay for coupon codes for tickets... there are lots of deals for Legoland. Other worthy excursions: Wild Animal Park (better than San Diego Zoo in my opinion), SeaWorld, and Old Town San Diego. Don't forget downtown La Jolla - walk down to the rocks and watch the sea lions (or are they seals?).
Have fun!! Book early - San Diego is pricey in the summer!

I used to live in San Diego and that is where you would fly to, but you don't have to stay in San Diego or La Jolla. Check out hotels in Encinitas and Carlsbad. I think they are fairly close to where you want to be. However, if you plan to do the zoo or wild animal park you will be all over town. so you could check out Rancho Penasquitos or even Mission Valley. For the cost I'm sure Lego Land has a website. You will have to do research on rental cars, etc... To save money buy a cheap cooler as soon as you get there and go to the grocery store. Sandwiches when you can, etc...
also, if you are looking to save money it is not a terrible drive. It's just whether you can take the time. set your kids up in the back seat with a laptop plugged into the car lighter and let them watch movies the whole trip. We used to get up and put the kids in the car asleep about 4a.m., then stop in the afternoon at a hotel and let them swim and fall into bed. This way they are only awake about half the ride. San Diego is 1500 miles. 2 long days or three relaxed days.
Driving can be fun. You can go to Carlsbad Caverns and Tombstone on the way!
