Hi mams, so I have had this Itchy feeling for about 5 months now. Now there is a red little spot on the side of the areola about the size of a dime and it looks dry ,but itchy and it looks like its going away then it comes back and is turning a light brown but its still there. On my nipple in the middle itches really bad too. I just dont know what else to do. I have used all kinds of over the counter meds creams and nothing seems to help.
I have no Health Ins at this time, but I did make an appt at a low income center in two weeks. Any suggestions of what it could be or what I can do would be greatly appreciated..

If you have had this for 5 months and tried to selfmedicate and won't go away......DON'T MESS AROUND!!! This could be a type of breast cancer called Pagets Decease..It is treatable but not if you don't take care of it soon.

I have had skin cancer twice (basal cell carcinoma), and both times it presented as small, flaky spots that kept returning to my forehead. Hopefully yours will just be a minor skin irritation, but it is certainly in your best interest to be seen by a dermatologist.

Good luck!

You need to go IMMEDIATELY and get tested for a rare and lethal form of breast cancer called Paget's disease. It is characterized by an itchy rash that does not resolve. God be with you.

I tried everthing on a sore like that for a year AND was seeing my OBGYN who gave me creams and such with antibiotics in them etc. I finally went to the surgeon with this specialty in womens stuff. For me it was Pagents disease which is a cancer. Yes, get Kaiser ins or something quick before you go. The itch and the not healing were like mine but mine was on the nipple. So it can be a dermatitis of sorts.

Hi V.... I agree with the other moms here, go to the doctor asap. I don't want to alarm you, but there is a certain type of breast cancer that represents itself with an itchy aureola. Many women simply dismiss it, thinking it's just a rash or irritation. Most of the time it is just that, a rash, but I think it would be best if you ruled out the cancer, at least for your peace of mind.
Please keep us posted. :)

It is important to get it checked out. While it is probably a skin problem (have you tried a cortisone cream?), being close to the nipple could indicate it is a less common type of breast cancer.

Breathe. There could be a myriad of reasons - from candida, parasites to breast cancer. Don't stress about it, but go have it checked out and then, if they come up with nothing, then keep searching.

Put some lavender essential oil on it. That kills any kind of virus, bacteria or fungus plus you will smell good! (If you can mix a drop of Tea Tree oil in, all the better as it is a bit stronger.) If by chance it looks like ringworm (which is very contagious), use Lemon Grass essential oil. All of these are available at your local Whole Foods supermarkets.

Not to alarm you, but I agree with DanaW. You should make it a priority to see a doctor and have this thing checked out. It's probably nothing, but why take any kind of chance.

As said,. make sure you get health insurance before going to the doctor. I called Anthem the other day and it was about $243 a month for the whole family so not that bad. They may have better plans too and maybe for you individually would be cheaper, but definitely get insurance BEFORE you to the doctor.

Honestly, V., I wouldn't wait the 2 weeks to be seen at the low income clinic. Do they know why you need to be seen? I don't know Dermatology well, usually, when breast health is an issue, physicians' offices will make it a priority to see you.

When I had mastitis with my daughter, they got me an ultrasound the next day. When, a few weeks later, I found a swollen lymph node, the breast ultrasound was again ordered. I didn't have breast cancer, but I did have Lymphoma (Hodgkins).

Good luck. I hope it's nothing and you'll have peace of mind soon.

...hmmmm...
Does the itchy area look like a round shaped patch?
Are you nursing or anything?
Sometimes, fungus can create real itchy areas on the skin... and if it is a fungus/ring worm type of thing... it will look round, circular in shape and appears to be a dry patch and it will itch.
You could dry over the counter fungal creams... the kind for jock itch or the kind to athlete's foot, or vaginal yeast creams. Use it for a few days and see if it goes away or improves. You wouldn't know for sure if it is a fungus... because you have not had it diagnosed by a Doctor... but you could try that. It if goes away... then it probably was a fungus/ring worm thing. But, ideally... yes, go to a Doctor... and see what it is.
Just an Idea... I am not a Doctor, but I have had as a kids, fungus/ring worm... it looks like a round itchy dry patch.

And yes, as the other poster said, breast health is real important and if you can get into the clinic sooner, that would be best.

good luck,
susan

Ok, all of these ladies are correct, you must see a Dr., but you also must get health insurance of some kind first. Research and get any plan you can get right now without an exam. Should you be diagnosed with any sort of cancer, you will be in a serious financial situation ( as well as your health)if you have not first gotten insurance.... It will be a "pre-existing" condition...you may be in a tough place, as you have already procrastinated so long, and many insurance plans have a 6 month window in which if you are diagnosed with something awful, they still don't have to pay, citing a "pre-existing" condition. I would look into any public plans available, and ask about pre-existing condition clauses. You are the perfect spokesperson for health care reform. I am so sorry you are facing such a difficult situation. If by chance you are unable to get any insurance, still go to your appointment, and I am praying that it is nothing more than a bad rash!! I wish you all the best.
