Last Week I Asked About Buying Expensive Purses Coach Etc...? This Is a Part 2 - Arlington,TX

What I meant to ask was about the purses that have the obvious name/logo splattered all over the exterior of the purse.
Big CC's, LV's or DB's.
I know it's none of my business who spends what on whatever, but I'm just curious. It seems like the purses go out of style and have to be replaced fore they expire.
I carry a simple brown leather square flat Liz Clairborne with no pockets on the outside. It's an everday bag, but not sutible for a fancy dress ball.
~Loved your answer from the last question, gave me a lot of perspective~

I hate having the brand name all over things. I don't care if it's Louis Vuitton or Old Navy, I don't want to be a walking advertisement. I don't buy any clothing items with big names all over it.

Not a fan of logo bags. Usually when I see one with an obnoxious logo splattered all over it I assume it's a knockoff. I can't see why anyone who can afford a designer bag would be so tacky as to have a gaudy label all over it. To me that just screams "I'm trying too hard!"

I don't know what any of those abbreviations mean, so that shows my concern about bags ;)

I don't even notice what people carry. How do you people (I don't mean that condescendingly!!) notice these things? I can honesty go through my day and not notice a thing people are wearing or carrying! I must not be very observant.

Anyway, we all have our "things." I love art supplies. People would probably be shocked at someone spending hundreds of dollars just on watercolor paints. I spend hundreds and hundreds on growing a flower garden. I spend hundreds on books and journals. Those would seem frivolous to others, but it's my thing. Some people's thing is buying expensive purses and replacing it when that purse goes out of style.

So long as someone isn't choosing an in style purse over feeding their kids and paying their bills..who cares?

I don't care much for labels. I'm not a walking billboard for a brand of clothing or accessory. If I like the purse, I'll buy it. If someone buys it and then expects me to ooooh and ahhh over it, she's got the wrong person.

Kelly:

I included a link to my purse on your last question. It's a DKNY but there is NOTHING other than a zipper pull that would indicate it's DKNY.

I personally don't like Coach, Louis Vitton or Dooney & Burke purses. I especially don't like the LV all over Louis Vitton purses! Coach? Urgh. I like their plain leather purses, but I do not like the material ones with the "C" all over it.

I would much rather purchase a quality bag and use it for years than a cheap one that I would have to replace in 3 to 6 months.

Hope that helps!

I like nice bags but I don't like in-your-face logos.
I have a few basic designer bags that I've had for YEARS and they are still lovely and stylish.
That's because when I buy an expensive, high quality bag I don't go for trendy I go for classic.
Think Kelly, Hepburn, Kennedy-Onassis. The styles those ladies emulated looks as fresh today as it did forty and fifty years ago.
If a bag goes out of style after a few years then it was trendy, and a waste of money.
If I happen to like a particular trend one season I'll get the JC Penney version!

I love the 2 Coach purses I have had for several years. Most people would not know they were Coach because the logo is not plastered all over it.

I will not buy something with the logo plastered all over it. Examples... Miss Me jeans, Bebe and Victoria's Secret tops with the logos on the front, etc you get the gist... I am not going to advertise for someone else for free.

I must've missed your original question.

I do not care for the bags with the logo all over the entire bag. Yuck. I also don't care for the more recent trend of having a HUGE logo fob hanging from the bag, either. A small little fob of some sort or whatever, fine, but something 5 inches across?? No thanks.

I am very particular about my purses/wallets. I used to stay well under $100 per bag, but typically spent $60 or so on a conservatively styled LizClaiborne bag. Because I liked the style and functionality of those bags. Then one day, I came across a similarly styled Fossil bag (and none of my stand-by styles could be found anywhere else at the moment, and I was in need of a new purse). It was over my $100 self-imposed limit, but I bought it anyway as a birthday present for myself (told my husband that would be my gift). It lasted probably 2 years before one of the metal grommets used to attache the shoulder strap snapped in half.

Even so, I use my bags every single day. And I use them: stuff actually goes in them! I don't put my phone in my pocket or bra, it goes in my purse. I carry my wallet in my purse (not my hand). I keep loose change, pens, makeup, and emergency stuff (neosporin, nail clippers, etc) in it at all times. My prescription stays in it. I often carry a spare inhaler for my son in it. And when we go on trips, I am often tasked with carrying other people's spare stuff (husband's sunglasses, etc).

I don't like huge giant sacks. I like a nice conservative purse. So having something that will hold everything I carry with me, and still being able to find it with one hand (driving down the road) quickly, is important to me. I am very, very choosy. I will shop for a purse for months without coming across something that I will be happy using... so when I come across one, I am not concerned that it costs $100 or more (but not much more!) I use my purses until they wear out... and with some of the quality of the nicer bags, that can be a long time.

My most recent purse was a clearanced Brahmin. Normally, it goes for well over $200. I got this one for $125 or so (it was December, so I am not sure anymore---it might have been a few bucks less). But I love it. It is the right size (not too bulky, not to thick), it has the right compartments, the zippers are not the new fashion with the huge teeth that scratch your hands all up, it has both a shoulder strap and handles, and can be completely secured (zips, not snaps closed) so nothing will fall out if I take it on a roller coaster, or slam on brakes and it flies into the floorboard.

I've used it daily since December (so 6 months now) and it is still in perfect shape. The fact that I get compliments on it at least once a week (no exaggeration) is just confirmation that I made a good choice. Not the reason that I liked it to start with. In fact, I was a little nervous, because it is a bright color (orange) not my more typical brown/black leather, but it has worn well with everything. Orange is as versatile as black! Who knew?

My next bag...whenever that ends up being--could be 2 years from now--may be this same brand again. I won't know until I go shopping. I know the quality is fantastic. But if they don't have what "works" for me, I will still be looking until I find something that does. I hate shopping for purses, so the longer the better. It is a chore to me.

I currently have a Liz Claiborne wallet that I have been using for somewhere around 10 years. It is really starting to get worn out, though, and I have been on the hunt for a replacement. I looked at Coach... didn't find anything that fits me. I will keep looking. And when I find something (preferably, and most likely leather), I will buy it... and I won't really care too much if it costs $100 instead of $12. I will use it every day, and I will probably use it for years. $1/month is a deal, if you ask me.

But, generally speaking, if there is a huge, shiny status symbol dangling, I keep on moving. I don't care for that style. My current bag has a small little gold bar across the outside storage pocket with the name on it. And I think a dangly fob that is very small (small enough that I am not sure there even is one).

Interesting follow up... what's DB? (I know my husband and I have used that as an abbreviated expression for douche-bag when we're around our son.)

I don't like wearing logos, period. I end up feeling like a billboard.

I can't tell you how many nice designer purses I have gotten at thrift shops for practically nothing. When I've used them for a season, I sell them on Craigslist and make all my money back and usually more. Usually the only ones that will sell on Craigslist are the designer brands with logo.

I use to keep the knock off sellers in business. I have now stopped. They look so good the first month, then they look really knock off by the second month due to ravelling, fading and tarnishing of the metal. Now, I buy nice, trendy bags at H&M or like Sally R., from thrift stores.

I also HATE coach! I think they are ugly. Bleh. I do have a LV purse my mom bought me when I turned 25. I don't think I've used it much cause its really not my style. I love bright colors like Juicy Couture, Betsey Johnson.

I answered your first question too.

And to answer this one, NO I am not a fan of the huge logos/initials on the sides of expensive purses or anything for that matter.

~Although, I did buy my sister a LV pocketbook with the multi-colored LV logos (purple pinks etc.) all over it, a long time ago...it was just too cute to pass up BUT it goes inside her regular purse!

There is a saying, that the dress makes the woman.
Then others say that the woman... makes the dress.
Same for purses.

An object, does not make, a woman.
And also, some women are fully dressed in all the latest high end designer duds and accessories. But then, they act, like they grew up in romper room.
So all their designer duds, mean nothing.
It is not just the money amount of an accessory, that makes one's "image."

Styles come and go.
But even with an old purse, a woman can still look fabulous.
Vintage wear, is also very nice on some women.
Day or night.

Even if a purse, is void of any "logos" on it... a discerning eye, can tell and a person will know... if that purse is a high end designer purse, or not.
But then again, there are a lot of "fake" designer bags. And most people can't even tell the difference.

I refuse to spend a lot of money on a bag and instead use ones that have some meaning to me. I have never spent more then $40 on a bag, but they all have a memory attached that makes them worth way more to me.

I don't quite see a "question" here...........maybe it is because I didn't read your post from last week??

I have all of the brands of purses you listed above and a couple other high end designer bags. Many of each actually. I feel that one can and should spend their discretionary income on whatever they like. I happen to like to carry a great handbag. My bags have not gone out of style at this point, but I do have my favorites. If you invest in a quality bag and take care of it many have a great resale value.

The thing is, if you can afford the real thing, then you travel in the circles of people who know you bought the real thing. And those bags last forever. They really don't go out of style, not the real mccoy...

The knock offs break, tear, and look beat up with use. And even if people didn't know it was a knock off when you first got it, they know it when it looks awful 6 months later.

I have some really nice bags and I have some cheapo bags, and some in between. Some of my bags do have logos, but not splashed all over them. I don't carry anything that has logo splashed all over it because I don't want to spend THAT kind of money.

I did buy myself a Coach purse last Christmas, and a wallet. At the outlet, on sale. But it's black with black logos. From a distance you would not be able to tell it has the C all over it. I got tired of spending money on purses at places like Ross and Target and having them look used very quickly, or falling apart very fast.To each their own, if you don't want to spend that money then don't, but also don't judge others that do.

DB is Dooney Burke for the person that asked.
