I had LASIK in 2003 so everything I say is my understanding from all the research I did at that time.
I originally went for the surgery in February 2003. They cut the flap too small on the first eye and had to put it back down and let it heal for three months before they tried again. During this time I was charged nothing and given a new pair of glasses for free since I would have to wear glasses (no contacts) for the entire healing period. There was no pain or complications...it was as if that eye had been operated on but I still couldn't see better out of it.
In May the surgery went great and I could see the next day without glasses. I never had to have an enhancement done but I did talk to a few people there for that purpose. I was told by the practice that any enhancements to get me up to 20/20 would be free, but after that my eyes would likely not revert until old age when the degeneration of eyesight is different. In other words, you might need some initial adjustments to get you to 20/20, BUT once you're there, as long as you're at least in your 20's you will likely be able to see just fine until you start to need reading glasses in old age.
Old Age far sightedness cannot be cured by LASIK because it results from a complete reshaping of your eye itself (as opposed to just the lense), so even a LASIK "enhancement" will not help you. Problems with eyesight due to old age sets in at different ages depending on genetics. Some people get LASIK anyway because it keeps them from having to wear bifocals even though they will still need the reading glasses.
I STILL have at least 20/20 eye sight and haven't been to an eye doctor since my follow up visits in 2003. Honestly I haven't been to many LASIK places, but the "adjustments for life" deal sounds like the extra insurance on car rentals. You MIGHT use it, but in all likelyhood you will get everything fixed in the first few months, and once you do start to have bad eyesight again due to old age, LASIK won't help anyway. I would ask for a copy of BOTH contracts and read the fine print on both before you decide anything. My guess is that neither wil garuntee perfect eyesight...since LASIK can't fix many sight problems...and if you're only going to be getting "touch ups" you need to question whether you want to have surgery done with a doctor who can't get it right within a year (or who tries to sell you insurance you likely won't need).
Good luck!
