I had lap band surgery on 3/28 of this year. I've lost almost 45 pounds in the past 4-1/2 months and am VERY happy that I did this. It was performed by Dr. Quinlin at Pittsburgh Bariatrics. If you have any other questions, feel free to email me!

i have not had this done, but two of my aunts have. i know they have to be very careful about what they eat (not to much, not to spicy, no pill meds, etc). one went from a size 26/28 to a size 8/10 and the other went from 20/22 to 10/12. sorry i can't help you much with where to go because my aunts had theirs done in denver, co, and rapid city, sd. good luck! ~ J.

D.,
Hi, Well, i've been in the process of having a gastric bypass done. Still having some insurance issues. Might have to self pay, but that is my choice. I have done extreme research on WLS. You have to do what you feel comfortable with. The band is different from the bypass. The band will stop you from over eating at one time, usually, and make you feel full quicker, on the otherhand, the bypass will do the same but also malabsorb the calories you intake, meaning it will bypass part of your intestine, so you will lose weight quicker, because the food you eat isn't going all the way thru, it's BYpassed. It all depends on what you feel will work for you. If you want to chat you can email me or im me at ____@____.com Hope this helped a little. Good luck in your search.

D.,

I wish you luck with your research, and pray you find the option best for you.

I have not had this done, but my husband had stomach surgery for a different problem many years ago, and in the process it decreased the size of his stomach. In essence, the same result as the lap band without the band. He lost weight, and lots of it.

I have to say that most any surgery is only as good and successful as the energy you put in to the recovery. Follow doctors orders and you'll do fine. I do know people who have had this surgery and have gone both ways with it. For some it worked, and for some it didn't. For those it didn't, not one followed all of their recovery orders. For those that it did, well I think you see where I'm going.

I congratulate you for seeking advice and going into the decision of surgery with an arsenal of information.

Blessings,
Rolinda

Hi D....another option is weight watcher..flex points. My sister in law lost 85 lbs doing ti and I just started a few weeks ago ( 6 wks after my baby was born) and have lost almost 10 lbs on 8 weeks. ( I would have lost more if I did not have to eat so much due to nursing|). The program is not really difficult...and I am not really exercising...you may want to check it out.
Good Luck!! S.

Hi D.,

My cousin actually had this done, and had the story broadcast on the local news. He is losing a ton of weight, and is feeling great. He had to go through a bunch of counseling and meetings with doctors before he could have the surgery and even had to begin dropping a percentage of the weight before his surgery.

It was an outpatient surgery, he was scheduled to be out of work for two weeks, but went back after just one. The first two weeks was pureed food only and you can only sip liquids.

There are a loads of upsides to this surgery as opposed to a full gastric bypass surgery, being adjustable and fully reversable if necessary, it truly has been a godsend for him.

Best of luck in your reseach, there is no easy answer to losing weight, I am involved in the weight battle myself, I am slowly pecking away with Weight Watchers online.

Take care,

S.
