I need to ask a silly question. I have never had any kind of theme in my house, and I am purchasing a new home and I want a theme, but I want a different decor/theme in every room. Is that ridiculous or would it look funny?

What can I do next?

Hi A.,
No that's not rediculous at all! I love the idea! I actually tried doing that with my home, but I need more practice! LOL I tried to be brave and made my living room a chocolate color and my office a burgandy...well...I got tired of the dark colors really quick and I'm looking into a more refresh and lighter color.
A different theme in each room is awesome! To me I would think of it as if I were in a different place every time I would walk into a room. That is so neat! Let us know what themes you picked out and how you like it. G.

No not at all. You want everything to be different. Can't have it all looking the same. You might want to keep the same style, like antiquish or modern for the main rooms but you can switch up the themes and colors. Hope that helps you. Wish you well.

I too am the same way, I don't have my house yet (still stuck in an apt.) but, I too want something different in each room, I do what I can in my apt now....example: upstairs bathroom is an olive green, bamboo look, all matching accessories... girls' room- pink puple, boys- blue, sports, kitchen had a blue theme, now its moving toward sunflowers, and our living room (wasnt happy at first but growing on me) all furniture is black or black and silver. My MIL's house has a very different theme in everyroom. I think it just has to be unique to your likeings. And i think it adds to the look of the house. GOOD LUCK.

It's not a silly question! You're wanting something that represents YOU, and your tastes are varied.

I would suggest, however, so you don't feel stilted, that you choose a central idea and build out from there. For example, say you wanted a "travels" idea, to build out from there, you might go European or French in your dining room - with colors and textures and furniture to match; African in your living room - with vibrant colors, plants, animal statues, and Egyptian or Tribal art on the walls; Asian in your bed and bathroom - with a Feng Shui style, and the relaxing colors of blue or vibrant reds and dark, almost black, furniture with a linear style. You could even go Americana in one room with a baseball theme or something "down-home", apple-pie looking. *grin*

You don't necessarily have to use THAT idea, but you can see how a central idea can create different themes (and color schemes/decor) in the different rooms, yet still all flow together.
