Kitchen Smells Horrible

I made salmon patties the other night because I was craving them. I made them at 9 am because my husband cannot stand the smell. He walked in at 6:30 and he still smelled the fishy smell. He gets upset when I cook salmon because 1) he has seafood and 2) he cannot stand the smell. I am told to quit cooking the fish and I refuse (I only do it about 1 time a year because he is so weird about it. Does anyone know how to get rid of the smell because I would love to eat this stuff all of the time and my son really likes it also.
Thank You

My mother always used to cut a potato (I know, it sounds weird) and put it in a bowl on top of the stove while the fish was cooking, and after putting the trash outside (right after eating) and then she always lit a scented candle and I honestly don't ever remember smelling a "fishy" smell in the kitchen. (My husband is the same way about tuna, so I usually don't eat it unless he's going to be gone for a few days for work...) Good Luck!

I have heard if you place used coffee ground in a bowel and place it on the counter it will help absorb cooking odors.

You could try quartering a lemon or lime and adding some whole cloves, cover with water and simmer on the stove....smells wonderful!

LEMONS LEMONS AND MORE LEMONS!! We cook fish about over 6-7 months of the year. If it gets to smelling fishy I use lemon juice to help clean the smell. Also Arm and Hammer baking soda works wonderful as well. I hope that helps you.

Hi K., Salmon is VERY good for you, I'm like your hubby though, I can't stand the smell or taste, however I am happy that you like it because it is so good for you and your son. Well this is what my mom always did after fish night, she lit a candle while she did the dishes and when she was done and left the kitchen, she would shut off the kitchen light and blow out the candle, when we all got up in the morning, no smell!

I love seafood and my hubby hates it (other than liking sushi) so we compromised. When we purchased our BBQ Grill, we got one with the burner on the side. Anytime I make fish of any sort, I do it on the grill burner! I also use the deep fryer out on the deck, because I hate that grease smell in my house, it takes forever to get rid of. If you don't have a burner on your grill, you can buy a portable stove or burner, or even take an electric skillet out on the deck or patio. My neighbors probably think I'm nuts standing on my deck in the cold, boiling shrimp! LOL!

As for getting rid of the smell already in the house, I use Oust to get rid of kitchen smells. It works great without making the air smell perfumey.

I light a plain white non-scented candle to helps with stubborn smells. I also microwave a little vanilla in a dish in the micro. That sometime helps but not always.

Do you have a vent over the stove? All that time before he comes home, you can spray something, or put a pan of water on the stove and add some vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg, My own little recipe for air freshner. use a pan you won't use again except for that let me know

I would just buy the already made things. Then go from there. If the smell is there then I would do like some of the other bright mothers have suggested. please keep me posted at ____@____.com.

I like to use Oust. Also, you can simmer a pot of water, citrus rinds, and cinnamon sticks, and that will make your house smell divine. I can't stand the smell of fish, either, but that's no reason to tell someone they can never eat it again!

I've always been told a bowl of ammonia will absorb the odor. It works. The ammonia itself stinks at first but that dissipates quickly.

A little trick to get a smell out of the kitchen no matter what it is ( i had the burnt popcorn smell and it worked) take a fresh lemon cut it in 4ths and throw it in the garbage disposal. ur kitchen should then smell like lemons!
