I've been told that drinking warm water with fresh lemon when you first get up in the morning--every morning--will help, as the lemon helps flush out the kidneys. Probably wouldn't hurt to try.
Has anyone experienced a swollen kidney and ureter while pregnant? I have a mild condition, and I can't remember what term my doctor used for it. Anyway, I had pretty uncomfortable back pain on Wed right before my appointment, in the middle of my back, right side and around to my lower abdomen just under my uterus. She ordered an ultrasound which confirmed her suspicion that it was this kidney issue. It's common apparently and all will go back to normal once the baby arrives, which could really be anytime from now until the end of the month (I've been contracting and thinning out since 28 weeks and am on bed rest). Currently I have not experienced much of the back pain like I had earlier in the week, but my lower right side just under my uterus is killing - this is apparently where the ureter is. I just wondered if anyone else had this condition and could recall their experience. I know everything I'm feeling is normal, but it helps to know how others felt too. Thanks Moms!
Thanks for replying! So far the pain isn't horrible. I had an ultrasound that showed there were no stones, but who knows if they'll develop. I'll be sure to keep an eye on it after the birth. For now, I hope the pain doesn't get worse. If I have to have this issue on top of some others I'm dealing with, I'm glad it's at least as mild as possible :) Thanks again!

Earlier this week I was in the ER for a kidney stone that got stuck in my ureter. (I have chronic kidney stones. This is the norm for me.) Anyway, it's called hydronephrosis.
The pain is horrible and you can't seem to get any relief from it. I'm sorry you're having such issues with it. I had it twice with my last pregnancy. The way I got the best relief was sitting on my birthing ball and drinking as much water as I could possibly muster. With you being on bed rest, I don't know if you can sit on a birth ball.
I know it sucks and it hurts something fierce, but it will go away soon.
*hugs*
I agree with the others. I had this "hydronephrosis" with 2 out of my 3 pregnancies which was because of kidney stones. The pain under your uterus is probably spasms. My stones would get lodged in my ureter then cause my ureters and bladder to spasm - NOT FUN!!! You should get a CT after giving birth to find out if and where you have stones (I had one days after my baby was born). Good luck! I feel for you!
I had it 9 weeks ago. Was induced a week early bc pain was really wearing me down. Baby was 8# 12 oz. I can't imagine if he had been in there another week. Do ice, it helps a little. Lots of water. The pain somewhat resolved after birth, but is back. Ct scheduled for next week.to.check for.stones. good.luck.
