We visit my family here 1-2 times per year and we have a 21 mo son and 3 yr daughter. Any ideas? Or any tips for Lego land or sea world? Heading there this week. TIA

So What Happened?

Thank you all for the feedback. DH is from Encinitas so we love Julian, Balboa Park, Seaport Villiage, Moonlight Beach.. The list goes on there's so much to do (and eat) here! Thank you for the tips on Sea World. As for Legoland dd is 38" & ds is 34" so I hope they'll have fun (mil already bought tickets). Thank you for the great ideas

ETA: My brother said Julian is still doing all the road side stands...there's even more now...pie houses, pumpkin houses...it's a twisty road - but it's well worth the drive!

Not free things to do...

San Diego Zoo.
Sea World.
W. Animal Park - now called Safari Park - in Escondido.

These are FREE...just the gas to get there...

The beaches are DEVINE!! La Jolla Cove or beach is great...Torrey Pines...

Then there's Coranado...Seaport Village ...Mission Bay park (we used to have MANY BBQs there when I was a kid!! Hopefully, it's still as beautiful now as it was then!)

Oh my word...if you drive away from San Diego - there's a place called Julian...it's up in the mountains - it's fall and they have stands of Hot Apple Cider, pumpkins, squash, and so much more...at least they did when I lived in San Diego years ago...my brother lives in Escondido. I'll call him and ask...

Sea world, beach, Balboa Park. The zoo is wonderful but you will need a stroller for both kids.

San Diego zoo is a must. Google tourist attractions in SD. It will give you everything.

We love San Diego! Our first trip there our kids were about the same age as yours. We love the zoo and there is a lot to do in Balboa Park. We have only done the zoo and the little train though. Skip the Safari Park. It probably isn't going to be too much fun for little ones. It is a lot of riding.

Sea World is fun. Take swim suits to do the splash pad in the Sesame Street area. They also have a meet and greet with Sesame characters. The Shamu show is fun and it is fun to feed the seals and sea lions.

There is a fun children's museum downtown. It is called New Children's Museum. It is art based and has a lot of hands on things for kids.

We love the beaches on Coronado Island.

Seaport Village is a fun place to walk around.

We have never been there at the right time of year, but there are several pumpkin patches and pick your own farms.

Look at the Red Tricycle website (www.redtri.com). They have lots of information about things to do and a calendar of events.

Your son is probably too small to ride anything at Legoland, so I would wait until they are older to do that one. There are a couple of rides with a minimum height of 34", most are minimum 36" and some are even higher than that. It's not fun if they are too small to do anything.

Sea World is great. They have a fun play area in addition to all the great sea life you get to see. I actually like the dolphin show more than Shamu. Make sure you go early to get in line/get tickets. The shows are free but they do have a maximum capacity and they usually sell out.

The San Diego Zoo is also amazing if you haven't taken them there yet. It's a lot of walking, and a lot of hills, so you'll probably want a stroller for your daughter, too.

I would look at tripadvisor.com to get some good ideas. I've never been to Sea World, but my husband has when his kids were little like yours. He always says, the waiting for shows is really tough for the littles. I have been to Legoland many times. There will probably only be a handful of rides you can do at Legoland with the ages of your kids. IMO, you are better off waiting until they are a little older to do either of those activities since they are so young and it is so expensive.

My kids LOVE LaJolla cove. It's small and uncrowded and free. My son could spend hours in the tide pools looking for marine life.

Up the road a mile or two is a place where the seals are on the beach....dozens at a time...anyone there can tell you where to find them. My kids thought that was pretty cool.

The zoo would be great for young ones...but it's a ton of walking.

Sea World and Lego Land are great - but my kids were a bit older when we went there. Yours may be a bit young yet for these...

Have fun. We'd love to go back...
