Have you ever had a keratin treatment at the salon? Does it damage your hair? My hair is naturally straight and long, I just want it" silky" straight. Worth doing?

What can I do next?

I have long wavy hair that even if mother nature thinks of humidity my hair frizzes!

I have not had the salon treatments done.. but I did buy the Suave Keratin Treatments at Wal-Mart for around $10 or $20. Then I use Suave Kertatin shampoo and conditioner. I did it a little over 3 months ago and my hair is straight and is so smooth and shiney and haven't had the slightest bit of frizz in those 3 months.

I'm very happy I did it, it has made a huge difference in my hair!

Those things costs a lot. At least it does in my city.
It has chemicals in it.... that can be bad.

Your hair as you said, is naturally straight and long. Already.
You just want it silky straight.
Can't you use glossing products or leave in hair conditioners and "shine" products?
Garnier Fructis makes good hair products.

Keratin treatments are not permanent. You need to redo it.

I have curly/frizzy hair and I do a keratin treatment every 4 months. It is expensive but worth it because left to its own devices, my hair looks crazy! The keratin treatment makes my hair silky shiny and is the softest it has ever been. It definitely looks its best when the keratin is in my system. I don't think it damages my hair, in fact since it holds the "straight" longer I find myself flat ironing and round brushing less, so my hair is healthier.

I highly recommend it!

I've been using a Keratin Shampoo. LOVE it! I have naturally wavy hair, but it can get frizzy in the humidity. My hair is so silky and smooth since I've started using the products. Their Argan Oil stuff is also wonderful. Here's a link:

I've done it numerous times over the last 5 years . . . otherwise I have extremely frizzy, curly hair in humid south Florida.

That being said, look for a formaldehyde free (or reduced) formula. I noticed my hair falling out the last year or two (that could be from hormones though). I've tried to cut down my overall toxin exposure.

It works great.

Never had one in the salon, but I tried the Suave Keratin Shampoo and I hated it. It made my hair feel like straw, not smooth and silky like the commercials say. I have naturally wavy/somewhat curly hair that gets pretty frizzy with tons of flyaways. I don't know why it didn't work for my hair, but I'd definitely discuss it with your stylist first, because she knows your hair and can recommend if it would work for you. Good luck!

No.
I haven't been to a salon in years.
I henna my hair.
My hair is a medium brown, with some grey creeping in, and the henna gives me a chestnut color with coppery highlights - and it makes my hair very silky and shiny.
I haven't had a split hair on my head for over 10 years.
Not everyone wants to change color, but there are a few henna like plants which will give you the shine and silkiness without changing your color.
Take a look at
Zizyphus Spina Christi or
Cassia Obovata
and see if they might be right for you.

Not really. If it's naturally straight, why would you risk it keratin treated?
My daughter had it done once. It looked beautiful. Second time, (same technician) it burned so bad she had to have it cut to shoulder length.
