Maybe they are hoping you will find a job instead of waiting 45-60 days for them.

It does take at least 45 days to get your application approved, pregnant or not. My sister's husband didn't have insurance when she first became pregnant, she applied for Medi-Cal (in CA, everywhere else it's Medicaid) and it truly took 6 to 7 weeks. The doctor's office took copies of her application and placed them in her file, they knew they would be paid by either Medi-Cal or my sister and BIL. When the Medi-Cal came through it was retroactive 60 days back from the date she applied and she was paid up, no out of pocket to them.

Find a doctor that accepts Medi-Cal and see if they will see you now, if not look for a prenatal clinic, there are free and low cost ones to help.
March of Dimes can help you find out about free or low-cost services in your area:
Call (800) 311-BABY (800-311-2229). This toll-free number connects you to your local health department.

Here in Indiana as long as your case is "pending" you can be seen. I think 45 days is the norm.

Since a woman who is pregnant is hardly ever even considered to be hired at any job I understand your issue.

I suggest that you go to the local health department and see if they have any sort of prenatal care. I do know they do pregnancy testing and once you do that you can often get on WIC because you're pregnant. They may have a program for you to get vitamins and other stuff too, it's been a few years since I was pregnant...lol.

Congrats on the baby. Don't mind the mom's on here who think that people who are poor have no worth. I understand how things can suddenly happen and turn our world upside down.

The mom's on this page tend to be 2 groups. Those of us that have lived and had good times and bad. Times where we didn't know where our next meal was coming from and then times when money was abundant.

If your boyfriend makes very much money you won't get medicaid anyway. In Oklahoma if you make over $600 per month you won't qualify. But being pregnant does make some difference. I'd sure go look at the state website to see what the charts say the income is supposed to be under to qualify.

45 to 60 what? days to process your application? Doesn't sound right to me. But I know of no way for you to speed up the process. I suggest that something that you're saying or doing is causing the office to be suspicious. How long did you wait between both applications? And why didn't you apply during the first month of so of your pregnancy? Time of application could be a problem.

Have you looked up the requirements on the state's web site? That might give you a clue. Did they ask for proof of pregnancy? Did you apply to the correct program? Are you getting other forms of state assistance, such as Food Stamps and WIC? If you're not eligible for those programs you may not be eligible for Medicaid. I don't know. Did you ask at the appointment why it would take so long?

My daughter was able to get state medical coverage the same week that she applied in Oregon. But then, perhaps Oregon's plan is administered differently. I think that Oregon has more than one plan. The plan that my daughter applied for is available only to pregnant women and children.

Now that I've stopped to think. What is your question?

Gamma G. Good suggestions but really a pregnant women is not likely to be hired? My daughter was hired for her current job while pregnant. She was pregnant when hired for a previous job. It is against the law to not hire because of pregnancy.

And, yes, go to the county health department clinic. They will see you if you're low income. You do not need to wait until you're approved.

I say bring the bf if he is the one supporting you etc., moneywise bring recent stubs & proof of address, birth certificates, license & reappy. They finall switched from paper applications to onlune in virginia. Ask to talk to case worker & ask them why you have not been accepted. Since you are pregnant, normally it takes less than 45 days. It did in my unexpected pregnancy while then fiance now hubby lost his job. The only reason I can see is maybe your bf makes too much but barely?
