how did it go?
i am planning on getting an entry level masters in nursing and I have 3 young kids
i was wondering if you succeeded?
Hello lovely ladies -
I have just embarked on a second career and have been accepted into UTA's BSN program and as wondering if there are any other moms that have been through already, currently, or planning to attend nursing school with kiddos . . . I have a 3 year old and 9 month old. Any advice, tips, condolences (just kidding) - would be much appreciated!!
Thanks! R. (crazy shoot the moon mama of two gorgeous and fabulous girls and a nervous husband who has no idea what his stay at home wife is getting herself into ;)! )

Wow, all I can say is that it will not be easy!!! Doable but not easy. You will have to stay focused and have tremendous support. During my last 3 classes, I was pregnant and huge.... I planned my birth over the christmas break and returned to complete my last class starting Jan 3rd.....I was a single mom and in a different state....Just me and my newbie. The hardest thing was staying up all nite with him and then staying during my clinicals all day and repeating that cycle for 6 weeks.. If it were not for my nursing buddies, and friends....I could not have survivied....so all of that to say it was done....but trying to balance studying and giving time to your little ones especially due to their age will be a challenge.
Hi R.,
Sorry but I do not have any advice really but I was wondering if you could maybe share with me how you got into Nursing School? I am a single mom of a 13 month old little girl and I need to find a better job so we can have a better future. Are there any steps I should take to maybe one day be where you are? Are the tests really difficult? I'm sorry I could not answer your question but I can wish you the best of luck and I hope everything works out for you.

Congratulations on being accepted into the program. That in itsself is an accomplishment. I graduated from Tarrant County College Associates Degree Nursing program 4 years ago. It seems like a long time to see it in writing, but it feels like it was not long ago at all. I remember it all too well! I was lucky enough to be able to give 100% of my attention to school. I did not yet have my adorable son and my husband supported us so I worked very little. I cannot give you advice specifically about managing life and school with little ones. But I will be happy to answer any questions about nursing school in general. there were many women in my class that had anywhere from one to five children (that I know of). Some had spouses, some were single parents. So, it is do-able. But I will tell you honestly. Let me begin by saying that I love being a nurse. Nursing school is nothing like actually being a nurse. Nursing school sucks! It is extremely difficult and time consuming. The tests are written that there is no good way to prepare. Just go in knowing that you will most likely be chronically frustrated, confused, tired, and wondering if you have made a mistake. Know that you are in a TEMPORARY hell. I don't mean to scare you, but I feel like it helps if you know going in that it will be hard, but you can make it. Remember that being a nurse is not nearly has hard as being a nursing student and it is much more rewarding. Hang in there! If I can help at all feel free to ask.
Hi! I'm also working towards a BSN from UTA. I am doing it a little differently though: instead of attending UTA for the whole 4 (or more) years, I am getting all of the prerequisites done at TCC instead, and will then transfer to UTA for the last 2 years of the "real" nursing courses. I have one more semester to finish at TCC (after this semester that is - just one more week to go!), and I will then hopefully transfer to UTA. The reason I decided to get my prereqs done at TCC is both to save money, since the tuition at TCC is much less expensive than UTA, and also because TCC is closer to where I live and enables me to just attend part-time, in the evenings, after my husband comes home from work so he can watch our two young daughters (now ages 4 and 18 months.) I've actually been working on these prerequisites for about 4 years, ever since my oldest daughter was born, which admittedly seems like forever...but I have chosen to do it slowly so that I've still been able to spend most of my time with my girls while they are so little. So by the time I start the hectic junior and senior year at UTA my oldest will be in kindergarten, and my little one will be 2.5 - that just seems easier to me than trying to get through with a newborn! Let me know if you'd like to keep in touch, and maybe we will see each other at UTA one day!
