You can take the Accuplacer at TCC to place you where you need to start with your generals. I don't know how close you are to TCC Northeast campus, but the registrar's office there is very helpful and very friendly. Don't bother with the counselors until the testing center requires you to go to them, which will be once after taking your placement test, to discuss what basics you may have to take depending on placement scores.
TCC has a great nursing program, but it is highly competitive. I'm not sure when their cut off date is for applications into the nursing program, you may can find that on their website www.tccd.edu and pick a campus, click on Degrees and Certificates, and then on Assoc in Applied Science: Degree and Cert. Plans, then scroll down until you see Nursing. They have descriptions for the program.
What you will most likely have to do if you choose TCC is take a semester of generals(check the nursing program and choose classes that are required for the program but not specific to it, English, Psych, etc.), get a GPA for that semester, and then apply for the program the next round. That is what I'm doing with the Physical Therapist Asst. program since I've never been to college until this year.
Also, it may not be too late for Financial aid. I just started college at TCC this fall, and I didn't put in my fin. aid app. until about 2-3 weeks before the fall semester started. But you will have to fill it out online, or you won't have time to get it back. (www.fafsa.ed.gov) And even if you apply late, you can still get fin. aid, but you will have to pay registration and books up front, then get reimbursed with the fin. aid money.
Good luck! I have such admiration for those who pursue an education, especially after having been away from it for a while.
