Does anyone have any experience on JPS Health Network? What are the doctor's like? How is the service? I'm looking for information on the satellite locations, not the hospital.

My kids currently have CHIPS but my husband and I don't have anything because the insurance at his job is extremely expensive.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Since JPS is our only option at present, I signed my husband and I up. We are covered until 2010. Since a new office is being opened in Watauga, I will see how that goes. I'll keep my eyes open for any potential cracks in service based on the articles I found in the Star Telegram.

Thanks for the responses!

you do have to wait long sometimes, but to my family - particularly my brother they were great. he is a frequent to their neurosciences department. he has been going there for many years now. about 2 years ago they did a surgery on him <one that noone else would attempt> they saved his life! 14 hours of surgery and many weeks of recovery but now he is as good as new! if you need the coverage then go for it. you may have a few bad wait times but its better than nothing! they actually have very very good specialists!

Hi Tam, I know you are probably scared to even ask this ? after the write up in the Star Telegram, but I go out to the South Campus Clinic and see Dr.Grissom and I LOVE him! His staff are the greatest.I get seen on the day I call or the very lastest in the morning.I have had a hard time with all the hoopla about J.P.S. because I have only had nothing but the best care.I have sent many friends over to him and they love him too.So what gives? Now I don"t know about any other Drs. over there, but all I see are people moving smoothly through at that clinic. Yes, I know at the downtown hosp.{main clinic} there are tons of people and the lines are long, but what do people expect? I figure I don"t have any other choice. I always get my meds at a very good price and if I don"t want to wait I take my scripts to Walmart and get them for $4.Also there are social workers there that will help you if you need help paying for meds if you have had a "Bad" month and are running short on cash,I believe they will help you twice a year.So I hope this helps you make you a choice,Like I told you this is South Campus Drive,I actually live near TCU and SCampus is really further than the Main Campus. Good luck. S.

In one word....terrible. My husband and our kids used to receive health care from there and there is no other words to describe our time there. The doctor's are not very friendly and want to get you in and out as fast as possible. You may have to wait up to two weeks just to get an appointment and if you need to be seen quickly due to illness like an ear infection you have to go downtown to the hospital to the after hours clinic and wait forever. I went down one time for a simple sinus infection and ear infection and the whole time start to finish was 6 hours. My husband hit his head on a set of concrete stairs and was able to get in to see the dr. but the dr. did not have the ability to do a cat scan so she sent him to the hospital and he was told that he would not have to wait b/c the dr was faxing the info that the hospital needed to speed him up b/c they did not want him to wait very long to get the cat scan done. Well after 14 hours of waiting my DH left w/o being seen. Not to mention that the hospital says that it is concerned about patient health but they have a McDonald's inside the hospital that serves a BUCKET O'FRIES for almost $6. I was never so glad to have private health insurance after our experiences there. Oh and when my daughter was 1 1/2 she was sick and was not urinating a whole lot and they needed to test her urine so they wanted me to let them put a catheder(sp?) in her to speed up the process instead of waiting to catch the urine in a urine cup. I said no way! I hope this helps.
