K.P.
I found this site off Google. I was a new parent at the time, and had questions and Google directed me to this site. Keep coming back, because on good days on here, I can still learn something useful.
I'm a little bored tonight so this is my first "just for fun" question! Just curious, but how did you all first find out about Mamapedia, or Mamasource, as it was once called? A good friend of mine told me how great it was to "talk" with other moms and get advice from moms of all ages, backgrounds, etc. One thing she forgot to tell me tho is just how addicting this site is!
Whenever I look at a profile and it's a first question I often wonder how the "newbies" happened to hear about the site. And if you are one of the "veterans" what keeps bringing you back?

One of my friends, who is a mom, heard someone ask me for some advice about teens and sex.. I was giving the low down on how to talk with this teens..
This other mom said, you would like this website, where older moms help younger or new moms..
Our daughter was about to graduate from High school, and I knew I was going to miss her and wanted to get some insight into what other moms did about their empty nests.. and I got hooked.
So many moms on here, have helped me through some really heartbreaking things..
I am glad to bee here.
My friend back east sent me a "tree" from mama source somehow, maybe 5 or 6 years ago. To this day I don't know if it was on purpose or an automatic spam thing. She never uses the site at all so I don't know what that was about.
I really only became addicted to it this year though... before I would check weekly and only answer sporadically. Lately I look daily (especially now that I have a smartphone) and there are many "regulars" on here that I really look forward to reading their wise responses to other peoples questions. Kinda like reading Dear Abby!
When I first came on here almost 7 years ago it was Mamasource...
I was pregnant with #4 and after a very rocky first 20 weeks of having a 50/50 chance of even getting that far I got there and everything was looking positive... then the two weeks later the Dr told me I had some kind of infection ( I don't remember what the technical name is). I looked it up on line and seen that it can cause preterm labor. I was freaking out! I was even more upset when the Dr told me that he was choosing to see if my body could clear it up on its own because some times the antibiotics for it can have worse affects.
While looking up more info I found this site. My first question was about the infection. I was go thankful to the wonderful mom's that reassured me that all I had was a yeast infection and the chances of anything happening due to their own experiences was pretty slim. They were right, my infection went away and I didn't have any problems due to it.
Then I looked up yeast infection and what do you know the technical name for it is what I had... why the Dr didn't just tell me that is beyond me!!
What brings me back is the people who have helped me with my many more questions I have had and the chance to be able to help someone else like I have been helped.
When my oldest (5 1/2) was a newborn I would go online while doing his middle-of-the-night feedings, to help keep my eyes open so I wouldn't fall asleep while rocking him. One night I was Googling something about infant care and one of the results was a link to some questions on this site (actually, back then it was Mamasource). I read a bunch of Q&A and was hooked. Been addicted ever since.
I love this site. While we are SO different from one another, we also have so much in common. The advice is great! I love that it doesn't segregate us into Moms of infants, toddlers, school age kids, etc., because ALL of the info is so helpful and it can come from anyone.
It was called Mamasource when I heard about it. I think it was on "the View" or some other talk show that promoted it.
ETA.. I guess I should answer the rest of your question.
Being a veteran, I come back for the same reason I came here in the first place, thought I'd have some experience to give to women.
What keeps me coming back is the endless and wonderful drama of all the uterine thinking :) It's something else.
I'm hopelessly addicted... and have become quite fond of many of the ladies that frequent this site.
I was here when it was Mamasource . . . I cannot remember how I stumbled across it!
A sorority sister of mine actually signed me up or signed herself up and sent a link to all of her friends-when it was Mamasource. I would get the daily digest email and read those every morning and eventually started commenting on posts and asking questions myself. Funny thing is, I come here all the time, but I have never seen my sorority sister post anything!

My SIL sent me a link I don't know HOW many years ago...... that was when it was Mamasource......
Why do I keep coming back?
I hope I can help someone in some way..... my kids are basically grown, and while I'm by no means an expert, I've seen a lot of things. I've made mistakes, too, and learned bits of wisdom from others. I hope to pass those things on to others.
ETA to add... Shannon and Dawn... that is how I got the e-mail, also.. I'm wondering if my SIL clicked on something, and it spammed her whole address book! Th e-mail also said something about planting a tree..... At any rate, I've enjoyed it......
i was looking something up and mamasource came up on google; been hooked ever since.
there definitely is the good, bad & ugly on here but I love it
I heard about Mamasource years before it became Mamapedia from a friend who said it was a good place to talk about "mom" stuff.
I keep coming back because she was right, and after all these years there are so many people that I feel like I know a little bit through their posts, and I like to hear what they have to say.
You're right; it is addictive.
It was Mamasource when I happened to find it years ago.
I enjoy reading, responding when I can plus I now feel like I know some of the moms so well!!
Now it's just checking in to see how everyone is doing!!
Well, in my case, MP wasn't so nice. A friend of mine clicked on something to plant a tree - she's a real nature lover. Somehow, that action downloaded her address book and Mamasource sent me a message saying that she had invited me. I believed it and signed in. A few weeks later I thanked her, telling her that it was a good site. She had a few ugly words to say about Mamasource stealing her address book and emailing people without her permission.
I didn't like that either. In fact, I should change my name on here just because of that...
It has been years since I thought of that, 4littleones.

My best friend sent me a link to this sight back when it was called Mamasource, about 5 years ago. I had just had my first child and so I really liked this sight to ask questions and see other woman going through the same type of things I was. I kinda come and go on this sight. I seem to get more into it every time I'm pregnant. I'm hoping to be pregnant with #4 very soon so....I guess that's why I'm here again! haha
i think it was when i was pregnant and was perusing other baby sites, like that track baby's progress in the womb, etc. can't remember the names now :) and i think an ad came on or something....not sure. it's been 6 years after all!
My friend sent me something about 5 years ago. I barely remember what it was...something about planting a tree? She doesn't come on here anymore and I have been on here ever since!
I love it because I am a SAHM and often times this is my only "adult" time that I get.
L.
it was mamasource then and my cousin stumbled upon this website that she could "send flowers" to people and sent me a flower. gosh that was long ago.
I had breastfeeding/sleeping concerns when my son was a month or so old and I happened upon mammasource.com 5yrs ago!
My friend invited me to Mamasource 7 years ago
A friend told me about it years ago.
I heard about Mamasource the same way you did! And I was SO thankful I joined! It was 4 1/2 years ago when I had my 1st and only child, single and no family; Mamasource was a LIFESAVER for me during the "newborn haze" Lol... And you are right, it IS addicting! I get my "Mamapedia Daily"!
I heard about MP via a friend that is no longer here - she got tired of the drama. People intentionally stirring the pot, intentionally being mean to others and such.....And to top it off, she's active duty USAF and went to Afghanistan for a year...
I've been here since 2008 - maybe 2007 - when it was mamasource.
I saw the other day that one said she found MP via a search for allergies and relief.
I was invited by a friend that never used it. I think she thought it was more of a business networking site.
That was a LONG time ago....when it was Mamasource.
I would assume newcomers find it the same way--mutual friend, conversation, googling something & stumbling upon it, etc.
Mamasource. Some woman invited me. I didn't/don't know her; we were linked by a mutual acquaintance via e-mail. You know how you might "reply to all" even though you don't know anybody? Anyway, I was feeling kinda minimized as a stepparent and needed an outlet for all the wonderful parenting and life advice that I had--lol. I also needed a forum for discussing such issues and gaining info and advice from others.
My husband laughs at me and my "mamasource". I do get something out of having something to offer to others. I also like knowing that there is an established place for me to vent and ask questions when I want.
Why do I come back? Not sure.
6 years ago there was a group on myspace that had link to mamasource. I cant believe I've been here for 6 years! Time flies!!!
A friend sent me a flower when it was mamasource. I really didn't use it too much back then.
I keep coming back for the good advice and hopefully I can give some too at least once in awhile. Some of you all are just so silly.
I seriously don't remember - but then, I don't remember much anyways, as my kids would say!! lol!! But I think maybe I got involved thru one of the survey companies I'm with. If not that way, then I have no idea!
By the way - I used to live in Beavercreek (it's not far from Dayton) - loved it there; would still be there if it wasn't for my husband's job!
Good question!!
