I keep seeing this elf thing and more and more I am becoming very glad I have no idea what it is. :)
So, we started the tradition this year with the Elf on a Shelf book and elf...it's only been a few days, but my little ones (2 and 4) are loving it! I wish I invented it! $$$ My 4 year old named him Elfie, very fitting name. They get so excited when they wake up to see where he will show up...very cute. Love the magic of Christmas!!!
So, what did your child name the Elf?
And what are some clever hiding places he has shown up?
Love the names...so this weekend we went away for 2 nights with the kids and stayed at Santa's Village (Christmas theme park way up in the mountains of NH)...well, Elfie shows up of course and my 4-year old was insisting it was a different elf and named him Elfia Wizbang...funny!
Good times with the little ones! Happy holidays to you all!

Very cute!! We are waiting for Dec. 1st to have the wrapped Elf on the Shelf box mysteriously arrive on the doorstep. I just have to go get some wrapping paper that the kids haven't seen so I don't give away the surprise!
Good luck and best wishes at keeping the Christmas magic alive in your home a looooong time!!
We started Elf of a Shelf last year (my twins were 4 1/2). It was a huge hit, so worth the $$. They named our elf Flynner. Flynner actually showed up at our hotel room last year in Chicago for a few days before Christmas. The girls still talk about that.
Cookie Dough is the name of ours.. lol... No idea how he came up with it... I don't really put ours in hiding places, he just goes on different shelves in our house..
I had never heard of them until this year. Thinking I may have to "invest" in one. Sounds fun!
Ours is named Ralphie. My two boys love him too! I hide him all around the house downstairs(great on doorframes, sitting on curtain rods, etc) for most of the month and then on the last night he gets hidden in my older son's room!
We love Elf on the Shelf too!!!
My 3 year old named him "Asha"??? Bizarre.
He has shown up in the fridge, hanging over the railing of our staircase, looking down from our bathroom mirror (that was kind of creepy - my hubby's idea), and my favorite was on the corner of the pie plate that held the pumpkin pie from Thanksgiving. My son LOVES pumpkin pie, so it was a great deterrant to keep him out of it.
Last year my then 3-year-old DD named our elf "Bobert" (as in "Bo", not "Bob"). No place too clever yet but as time goes on we'll have to get more creative!
Ours is Skippy. Sometimes Skip for short.
Would you please fill us in on what is an Elf on a Shelf? From the responses, it seems it is a magical elf that hides? Or does he bring presents too?
Thanks in advance.....
LOL, My brother and I had these when we were little. At our house it must have been a given that we were good ;-) (or not?) because ours would show up on the tree with a small gift or dollar bill tucked in them. It was only this year that I realized the "Elf on the Shelf" was the same as my elf. I even have a picture of one knitting in my pinterest (not mine, someone elses) I still have our elves and they hang out in our tree or among other decorations. They are probably close to 40 years old now and I can't imagine decorating the tree without them ;-). We never named our Elves.
my daughter named hers Danny; her friend has two (one at mom's, one at dad's - named Jolly and Ken). have you seen the new movie that you can watch before reading the book? it's ok, but the problem is there's a girl elf and they haven't started selling girl elfs yet so my daughter at first was insistent that she get a girl elf...but we told her that santa sends the right one for you...etc. we don't put him in very complicated places - try to make it easy for her to find - and every morning she is so excited when she sees him...isn't it funny? and, get this, i'm jewish...but it's too fun to not do, it's hardly a religious thing : )
My daughter named her elf Ray... very random but that is the first name she thought of when she saw him. we started doing it last year and she loves it. Ray moves all around the curio cabinent in the living room but this year (now that she is 4 1/2) he has been more adventurous and ends up in the tree, or in her stocking, or on the window sill. After the movie the other night she is really understanding that he can't be touched otherwise he loses his magic.
PIXIE. and he hides everywhere. my favorite spot is on the mantel. he just fits so well there
RALPH. Sounded closest to elf. He hides everywhere the dogs can't shred him (kids were quietly warning him about the dogs today). Love the tradition (we started last year, and just finally found him this AM after tearing the house apart. I love the questions and the kids reporting, sometimes Tattling on each other to Ralph. I tell them to talk to him because I don't listen to tattling :) Had to pick him up with salad tongs last year after he fell from a precarious hiding spot, and the kids freaked that he would lose his magic powers!! Mine our early risers so I panic if I have forgotten to move him before I go to bed..uh-oh...hope I didn't ruin the magic for some of the adults that you do have to help the elf move :) LOL. I do NOT make it easy for them. Sometimes it is a little obvious, but they (3 and 4 1/2 now) LOVE to search him out. Enjoying these times!
