I want to find out how much a salon charges for coloring. It's a me treat for my birthday :-). The salon's Web site doesn't list the prices (which to me means $$$) so I want to call and ask.
I don't think it's a strange question. I'm kind of self-conscious about stupid stuff like this. Ends up the DH got me a gift card to this salon! Woo hoo!

No, it would not be "tacky". I think I understand you a bit. I used to feel like this about things. Maybe I had anxiety... I don't know... I've since stopped, but in the past I would have felt hesitant just as you do/did. For some reason, regarding even the simplest things, I would be self-conscious thinking that the people might think I was up to something or being cheap ... Lol. Best wishes.

Call - it's not like they know who you are :) I'd call too. I hate when prices aren't listed. That makes me assume they are too high already :)

Call up, ask the price and then call back the next day to schedule an appointment or have hubby or a girlfriend call for you on their cell phone (caller id) to find out the price, then you call the next day and schedule the appointment.

Call and ask! Be specific about what you are coming in for and the length of your hair. They will tell you over the phone, but most won't list a specific price on their websites because it really depends on the stylist and your hair! If they won't give you a price, then find another salon, but most will share the info.
Happy Birthday!

Well you don't know until you ask.
A lot of salons have 2-3 levels of stylists which in turn means, (2-3 levels of pricing) so make sure you get all the pricing and then decide.
Good luck

Not at all tacky! I usually call and inquire about how long they are booked ahead of time, and casually ask what their price would be. then I book if I like it or usually say something to the affect of let me see what I can work out for a sitter, or just plain old Thanks for your time!

Just call--who cares if it appears tacky. Call and ask them for prices, and then call later to make an appt if it fits your budget.

Of course, ask! Some Salons really do charge way too much. I can't tell you how many times I spent well over $100 for something that looked marginal at best. I actually do my own hair now and have been complimented by hairdressers on my color.
Businesses need to tell people what the charge is before the service is rendered. That's just business.

Not tacky at all! Call. They may not list prices because they're pricey, but it may also be because stylists with different levels of experience charge different prices.
Hope you love your color!

what would be tacky is to go in with $100 and have them charge $200 and have to scramble to pay the difference - just call, that way you'll have an idea and won't put yourself in an awkward situation!

Call and ask. I'm like you, if prices aren't posted, I assume it is expensive.

If the business doesn't list the prices - it's absolutely fine to call and ask!
My husband usually tells me - if you have to ask "how much?" you can't afford it!! LOL!!! Seriously - ask. They should have their prices listed on a website!

Simply call and find out what the pricing menu is for the Master Colorist - typically Salon's do not quote pricing online because each stylist charges their own fee due to their accomplishments. If I am a new sylist I can not command as large of a fee as someone who has done it for 20 years and earned awards and has taken top notch classes. On average for a basic color you should expect to spend between 45-80 for a colorist.

I don't think it's tacky at all to inquire about price before booking a service. You probably wouldn't purchase an outfit without looking at price tags! I always want a heads-up as to what a salon visit will cost so that I can have enough cash on hand for tips. Enjoy your treat!!

Defintely call and ask. Many times they will tell you that pries vary and they want you to come in for a consultation...When that happens sounds a bit pricey to me. LOL! Go with word of mouth in your area.

Def call and ask, but make sure to ask about the stylist who's doing your hair. A lot of salons rent their chairs, so each stylist sets their own prices and each could vary a little. And it would be better to know ahead of time than to find out too late that it's more than you expected. And it might seem a lil weird to ask while sitting there in the chair...my sis does hair, and I have no problem asking her! LOL!
Enjoy your "me" day!!!

Not tacky at all. Most salons have a "range" for services, depending on the seniority of the stylists.

I don't understand why it might be tacky. The people do want to be paid for their services, so they need their customers to know what should be tucked in their wallets.
I was accustomed to think some years ago that if prices weren't listed, they were probably too high for me to afford. But I don't know if that's the case now. Maybe there are other reasons for not listing prices other than expensiveness.

Why would it be tacky? You shouldn't buy anything until you know how much it cost. Products or services alike.

Of course it's not tacky. Better to know than to get there and find out you can't afford it!! I routinely ask how much a particular person charges for a hair cut or color. I'm sure the salon is used to it. They might not list prices on website because the price various depending on the colorist or stylist.

I don't think it's tacky. It's a good idea because you want to make sure you have the money and the amount for a tip.
