If she's pulling at her ears and hitting her head, it may be an ear infection, which would explain why nothing seems to help. Only a pediatrician can confirm, though.
My friend sent our group of new Mom's this question. I'm not sure any of us are experienced enough to give her good adice. Hoping you Mamas can help.
We started the sleep training about 2 weeks ago. It started off for a few days of hysterical crying but we were making some progress. then Sally got a cold, or so i thought so we stopped the training since she was waking up every few hours- but then we realized that she had started teething again. She has a clear runny nose, she has been pulling on her ears, hitting at her head, hands in the mouth and nothing seems to comfort her or take away the pain. We just switched to using infant Motrin today so I am hoping it works better then the tylenol. Since Friday it has been getting worse and I am just at my end. I have called the pediatrician who we are going into see tomorrow, I have read everything on the internet and have given her every teething toy we own. I know that Sally is older then everyone else (she's 8 or 9 mos), but she seems to be the last one to get in any teeth. If any of you have any advice, PLEASE send my way. Mike and I haven't slept more then a 2 hour stretch for over a week now and we have become walking zombies.

My son had the same exact thing and it was (and still is) definitely teething. Hylands Teething tablets and Boirons Camilla are homeopathic must have remedies--you don't want to give them too much tylenol (can effect babies kidneys) or motrin (can effect liver and stomach). They may try to have her sleep in something where she is raised up since when the they lay down flat, it seems to bother them more. A friend of mine said she used to put the car seat in the crib to keep her baby upright!
Could be all of the above. The first thing to do is see the dr. which she is doing. If an ear infection is ruled out then she can continue with sleep training. However, it sounds like an ear infection to me. They are brutal.
Hi M., One of the young moms at the schoolyard is a nurse and tells us that you can give babies a combination of baby motrin and tylenol for extreme pain. Yes you should check with your doctor. This time will pass and yes you will lose much sleep. I do not know about "sleep training" just that you need to help your baby through this difficult time. Grandma MAry
