Is This Odd to You?

Just wondering. Something strikes me as odd about this news story so I thought I would post a link and see what you all think.

So???

Oh, just so you guys know the river is down, big time. It isn't nearly as dangerous as it should be. It sits a mile from my house, you can walk across it like a stream which is another post altogether since I get my drinking water from said river. I doubt the rope swing they speak of is even over the river at this point. At that point which is more down river it is maybe four to five ft deep but nothing a 12 year old can't handle.

I hope it all turns out it is just one of those that isn't going to.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Yeah it is for real. :(

I would ignore the chapstick too, they were there for hours, no telling when he dropped it.

Jennifer, in another piece of footage the older sister pretty much blurted out that he had been drinking then it was a few sips, then she said I can't cry anymore, I am cried out. The interviews are kind of strange as well.

Yeah, it does sound weird. Why would a twelve year old be drinking, even a couple sips, of beer? Why did they even ask that?

I had a friend lose a son in the Mermac. He was in his late twenties at the time, a big strong guy and a great swimmer. Didn't matter. He was out there with he three brothers and sisters, then was just gone. It was crazy.

They let him play alone by a river. They let the boy have beer. There were supposedly two suspicious looking characters. The boy was a Boy Scout and able to take care of himself in the wilderness even if he was wearing nothing but a swimsuit. He was a great swimmer. But in a dangerous river. No one saw him get out except a long ways away, there's a Chapstick that could be his. They waited hours to even report him missing in spite of laws such as Caylee's Law. The family thinks he got out of the river too far down for them to see him and he MUST be okay.

Naaahh. What could possibly be odd about that story? There are so many things wrong there I don't even know where to begin. Oh, wait...

EDIT: Lest anyone think I'm heartless, I really do feel for the family because in spite of their positive face to the media their child has been missing now for an entire day and night. This has to be scary and to think anything other than "he's going to come home safely" is terrifying right now.

However, their actions from start to finish are raising a lot of questions. We all think that this can't happen to us because... Well, it CAN happen to us. It CAN happen to our children EVEN WHEN they're supposedly excellent swimmers. How many of us have relaxed certain rules here and there because it was a special occasion? This is what can happen even if it's not a special occasion.

Yes, very odd. I am going to guess the police know a lot more than they are saying.

I would have called the police after 20 minutes and not being able to find him.

I think that it is just poorly written, and that the reporter may not have quite all the facts right....

They way it is written it sounds like the police are ignoring the chapstick and the strange men, and just focusing on the river. But I am sure that if those are legitmate leads then they are in fact following up on them.

As far as the anonymous rewards... well while a wonderful gesture, I find that sort of thing strange...

This doesn't sound that odd to me. It may turn out tragically, but I don't find it odd. A family was having an outing in a park with woods and water, and a child went missing. People do drown in 4-5' of water and people do get lost in woods.

A 12 year-old doesn't need to be watched constantly, and I sure wouldn't call the cops until I had searched everywhere I could think of, and it started to get dark. I had sips of beer and wine at this age and younger, with my parents. I don't see why that even got included in the story.

I feel for the family. My 10 year-old daughter and I just returned from a family reunion weekend at a lake. There were lots of kids, adults, water, boats, and beer. Everyone is fine, but could something like this have happened? Yes.

A 12 year old boy who had a couple sips of beer always strikes me as odd.

Other than that, it is a lost child - and that is always tragic.

I would assume the corporate reward is to cover all the bases in case it was an abduction.

Will keep him and his family in my prayers - too many children getting lost.

it seems odd to M.. The sister says she saw him in the water, turned around and when she turned back he was gone...why wouldnt they assume he drown and call right away? Also I'm not sure they are hiding something, if they were why admit he had a beer? It sounds like he got drunk, and then was acting a little wild and drown. Sad=( why wouldnt they pull security tapes from target if they think he may have walked there?

I hate to say it, and I hope I'm wrong, but this sounds like shades of Casey Anthony... :( The whole story sounds very fishy to me - especially in light of what you're saying about the river being down to a trickle.

It doesn't strike me as odd at all. It was still daylight when they noticed him missing. Mom thought he had wondered off pouting. I just don't see anything that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

As for the twelve year old drinking, that is about the age my friends and I would start sneaking a beer from the fridge to drink in the school yard. Pretty normal age to experiment.
