H.P.
(MommyR, that's how I try to think all the time. We never know.)
No, I would not have called the cops. I probably would have taken a swig just for her and then let her see me offer it to my kids.
I have a problem with migraines, so I cannot drink coffee. I was really dragging this morning, so I grabbed a bottle of rootbeer out of the fridge on the way out the door, hoping the sugar would wake me up a bit (I know, I know, no nutrition lectures please...). I didn't think anything of it until a woman in the car next to me glared at me. Then I realized that I was drinking out of a brown glass bottle at 8:00am while driving with two kids in the car! So here is my question- if you had seen me this morning, would you have called the police? I half expected to get pulled over on the way to daycare! It actually would not have bothered me if someone had called the police.

No, I would not have called the cops. I probably would have taken a swig just for her and then let her see me offer it to my kids.
I would have glared back at the lady, and not let her have free rent in my head all day to the point where I question myself.
Nah....there are just so many different drinks (energy, coffee, vitamin water, etc.) I don't think you can judge something like that at a quick drive by situation.
Funny though...I'll bet you were paranoid after that.
Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode at the stoplight...."It was a scratch, not a PICK!"
You know, I tried to genuinely think about the question.
Imagine this, if you'd posted this question like - you saw some mom doing this, driving down, and you are thinking if you'd have called the cops, and then ask this here.
Then, I suspect I'd have probably been a little too judgmental too quickly and said maybe, or that you should at least note down the license and inform the cops.
Now that I read it from your perspective, what a difference it makes to the line of thought! To answer your question, no. Knowing what you tell us, I really don't think anyone needs to call 911 and make an unnecessary drama.
But just wondering obliquely. How many times we all jump to conclusions about another person, another situation, without really putting ourselves in their shoes...hmm...just something to wonder about...
Only if you were driving erratically.
No way, I can spot a root beer bottle when I see one!
Absent any real indication you were drinking or intoxicated I would not have called the police. Sorry but brown bottle doesn't equal beer.
No, I wouldn't have. My mind doesn't automatically go there. However, have you ever heard that an apple is a better wake up than coffee?
Nope, most root beer bottles look different than beer bottles!!
Sorry you have migraines!!!!
Only if you were all over the road! :) Sorry about your problem with migraines. I can relate!
On the bright side, if you had gotten pulled over, you and the cop could have had a good chuckle over the incident and you would have a good story to tell! :)
I have a story that might make you laugh. (i could not laugh at the time) My BIL wanted to take his groomsmen to a baseball game as a thank you. My hubby begged me to let them use van, told me they would keep it clean, be careful etc. Well, i dont check the van. I am running late the next day with four kids. I open the side door and beer cans fall out. I throw them in recycle bin, buckle toddler and have the other 3 get in. Well, aparently there was one more can. I open the door in the doctor parking lot and clink, right in the parking lot. Boy, did one mom look like she was going to call the cops! My husband and the boys got an earful!!! (driver did not drink)
Nope... but I am a huge root beer drinker so I totally get what happpened! You should see the looks you get when you are pregnant and it looks like you are drinking too!!
Just a 'funny?' aside...
NH's motto is 'live free or die'...
And a few years ago, I recollect they ALLOWED open containers of alcohol in cars...
Always made me think that 'their' motto was an 'apt' one...
Best Luck!

hehehe. i doubt i would have, but it would have made me stare a bit! lol! i used to be paranoid about that.....back when i drank soda and other things, now it's just water but i used to really worry about this exact situation!! lol!
first lol and i think i would have followed u for a bit to much sure u seemed ok. ugh hard choice..what would u have done n that same situation?
I don't think anyone should have called the cops on you, but I like how you wouldn't have been offended by it.
Well, I HAVE been pulled over for drinking a root beer out of a bottle such as yours. Luckily it was a cop that was a regular at the coffee shop I worked at (college years), luckiy he KNEW we sold those rootbeers, plus I was using a straw. He mostly pulled me over because he knew me and decided to give me a difficult time. Then he asked me when my shift started, told him I was on my way out and he had me call in his coffee order so it would be waitng for him lol. He again wanted to razz me b/c I still had an old Motorolla flip "Zach Morris"style phone - he is lucky he was a cop AND a good tipper!
Not me, I would assume its soda or an energy drink.
That's really funny! I can't stand root beer, so I don't know if I'd even think of root beer, but I wouldn't believe that you'd be drinking real beer early in the morning! So no, I wouldn't call the police, and I wouldn't give you the evil eye. I might keep staring though, trying figure out what you were really drinking!
Funny story!!
Dawn
I would have assumed it was only soda
No, I wouldn't have called the police. Not all brown bottles are filled with beer. I wouldn't have called even if it was beer. I wouldn't have looked twice at you and so wouldn't have known if it was beer or not.
I did the same thing the other day, took a couple sips and started laughing. It felt akward enough drinking I decided to just finish it later.

No I wouldn't have. Now if you'd had a brown bag around the bottle.....then maybe so.
My son got pulled over the other day.. he is 20...
He was drinking an energy drink, (about 7 am in the morning), and the officer thought it was a beer!
No ticket, no warning..... just funny, though.
I can't help but giggle at this! To have to deal with migraine's and fending them off with root beer in the morning only to have someone get you pulled over?! You are angel for being ok with this ;) Anyway, great reminder that things aren't always what they seem. I used to be self concious drinking root beer in public when I was pregnant. I hope I would remember this before calling the cops on you ;)
My serious answer is I would only call the cops on someone if they were driving poorly. (I've amost done it a few times with texting drivers who've almost swerved into my car!)
If I believed someone was drinking and driving, then hell yes I would call the police and report the license plate number.
I hope your migraine is feeling better. For me, coffee actually helps.
