I think they used to count by months, but now that we have more sophisitcated methods to determine, we use weeks. 40 weeks is full term. Almost 4 mos at this point.
This is such a silly question but I need to know. Lol! I am 16 weeks pregnant today and I was thinking earlier does this make me four months? I can't seem to find anything online so I thought I would ask you wise ladys. :)

I had this "arguement" with some little girls on MTV's "16 and Pregnant" FB page a few months ago. They were POSITIVE that they were only going to be pregnant for NINE months. I made them REALLY MAD when I told them they were wrong.
Congrats by the way!
yes and no... most ppl say you are pregnant for nine months, but you are really pregnant for 10. So you are 4 months in to your 10 month pregnancy. :)
Hi ~
I'm an OB nurse.
Most people on here have it pretty much on.
A normal pregnancy is 40 weeks. Anything before 37 weeks is considered premature. We don't go my months at all, just weeks.
D.
This question/dilemma comes up time and time and time again. I am 33 weeks pregnant with my 4th child and when I tell people how many weeks I am, they ask, "How many months is that?" Well, I can't say for sure because pregnancy is not calculated by months. My husband and I got into a debate over this when I was pregnant with our first child so we asked my OB to settle the dispute. He said,"Pregnancy is not calculated by months, only by weeks." Pregnancy is calculated from the first day of your last period since the exact day conception occurred cannot be determined. All women know we were not pregnant at the time we had our last period but pregnancy begins, according to how our doctors calculate it, begins from that point. This probably doesn't help you much but it's best to calculate your pregnancy by weeks. It's less confusing. For most, anyway.
It really depends! If you know your conception date, you can say on the 14th of xyz, I will be four months. But, conversion from weeks to months is tricky because a month has 28, 30 or 31 days and the only month that really counts as four weeks is February! Every other month has fractions of weeks in it. I would tell people 16 weeks or around four months. Just keep it simple. LOL!
According to American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (link below):
1st month = weeks 1,2,3,4
2nd month = weeks 5,6,7,8
3rd month = weeks 9,10,11,12,13
4th month = weeks 14, 15, 16, 17
5th month = weeks 18, 19, 20, 21
6th month = weeks 22,23,24,25,26
7th month = weeks 27,28,29,30
8th month = weeks 31,32,33,34,35
9th month = weeks 36,37,38,39,40
So, if asked at 16 weeks, I would say "I am in my 4th month".

It is so funny but you have to go through a month to be pregnant a month. So after you have been pregnant for 4 weeks you are about 1 month pregnant. There is a scale online somewhere, maybe babycenter.com or parentcenter.com.
No one is pregant for 10 months! 40 weeks does not equal 10 months, because there are more than 4 weeks in a month. 4 weeks is 28 days. Those pesky extra 2 or 3 days (for those months that have 30 or 31 days) add up, and that's how it equals 38 weeks. Also, the count begins with the first day of your last period, which is actually 2 weeks before conception. That's where 40 weeks come from. If you pay attention to the date you start counting and the due date, it does in fact add up to 9 months.
So, 16 weeks is not quite 4 months, because 16 weeks is only 112 days, and 4 months would be 120 to 122 days.
To make it easy, just round it to a month instead of weeks, thats what I did. If I was 16 weeks I would say "im about 4 months."
It comes down to how many days are in a month and so on, thats why they go by weeks. 7 days a week...40 weeks in a pregnancy, from the date of conception, and you need to finish that week to be considered 40 weeks. It also depends on how people view time. My due date was March 17th. March marked the 9th calendar month of my pregnancy, some say I would be 9 months because I didn't go into April. Some say I would be closer to 10 months because the 17th is closer to April (didn't matter though because I delivered 4 weeks early).
All in all MOST people count 4 weeks a month and leave off the extra days from calendar day 28-30 or 31. So since most view 4 weeks in a month, just round your pregnancy time the same way...trust me, it's easier. ;)
yes, or at least I think so! I am 20 weeks and tell everyone I am 5 months! lol. But technically, we are pregnant for 10 months. The first 4 weeks are from the first day of your last period. So by the time you find out you are pregnant, your usually already like 5-6 weeks.
I used to take my due date and work backward to figure it out. For example, if my due date was Sept. 3rd, I knew that on Aug.3rd would be the 1st day of my 9th month-
July 3rd, the 1st day of my eighth mo.
June 3rd, the 1st day of my seventh mo.
Keep going til you get to where you are
Congratulations on your pregnancy!! :)
It's SOOO confusing cuz 36 divided by 4 = 9 but 37 weeks is considered full term even though you may be 3 weeks away from your due date or even more I have actually heard people say 40 to even 42 weeks is considered full term!
I was 16 days late 23 years ago!
Luckily they don't let you go that long now days. My daughter was 10.7 and I had her naturally!
Congrats! Hint: Don't forego the epidural!
Its confusing isn't it?
Yes, 16 weeks = 4 months...probably doesn't feel like it though, huh?
Congrats woman!
~I was confused by the 'dates' too! We are prego for 10 months though, I never did figure out why we always say 9 months but really it's 10 months...but whatever! My Doc always just counted in weeks.
Hi Mama
A pregnancy is 40 weeks so that would equate to 10mths if we counted 4weeks as one month.
16 Weeks is 4mths in pregnancy terms.
I am 8weeks so I say I am two mths.
Hope you are having a good pregnancy
All the best

Each trimester contains about 13 weeks. Its kind of tricky that way, think of how each month has a little more then 4 weeks in it. Doctors don't go by months, but by weeks, so I never kept track of how far along I was in terms of months. Non medical people want to know how many months, so its kind of a guessing game sometimes. To be SURE, go by your due date and count backwards by months. Like if its July 15, then you'd be at 5 months today, since its the 15th. I'd say you're in your 4th month, but not at 4 months yet. Probably 17 weeks will be 4 months for you.
Best wishes!
Congrats! Hoping you have a wonderful pregnancy and a safe (and fast!) delivery.
I am having a hard time with the people who say we are pregnant for 10 months. To go by the logic that every four weeks is a month is also saying that there are 13 months in a year. 13x4=52 My calendars all have 12 months.
