Hi All-

I just got an IPhone, yay and I am looking for any fun kid friendly apps for my 4 year old to use for entertaining purposes? I do have an Otter Box, so for her to actually destroy it is impossible, watch the video on youtube about Otter Box. Anyways, if you could provide suggestions either kid friendly or not, anything would be appreciated!! I currently have my local news, weather channell, food network bc I am such a foodie, Sex and the City, E!, Fandango, and just found Sponge Bob....Also, do any of you know how to watch movies on your Iphone??

TIA

What can I do next?

I don't think A. asked whether she should be using her iphone to entertain HER 4 year old. Isn't that HER choice? She asked for suggestions for apps from those of us who might offer some suggestions. I don't see anywhere in her post where she asked for opinions on whether she should be using an iphone to entertain her child. If I don't agree with entertaining a child with an iphone, I can choose not to respond to her request for suggestions, can't I?

A., you are further along than me....I implore you, download those movies, songs and TV shows...PLEASE dont forget just going outside and digging in the dirt and PRETENDING!!!!

We have several "toddler" apps but they really are for preschool age too...ones that help with speach, spelling, reading, matching etc. most are pretty inexpensive but our 4 year old loves them and seems to really learn alot so we don't mind buying them! The ones i'm referring to are called "toddler teasers" and there's several different ones...just search toddler and they'll come up at the top. have fun!

I agree with Bee's Mom! My 4 year old and 21m old are not TOUCHING my iPhone! I've seen all the apps in the "app store" for small kids, and I say -let them learn to entertain themselves! We're raising kids who have no concept of waiting and not being entertained 24/7, and that's kind of scary. Sure, my 4 year old has a Leapster that he's allowed to use in certain places or for a little while at home, and we use DVDs in the car for long trips (but ONLY for long trips -they have to be 2.5 hours+). Try playing some games like "I SPY" or imagination games with her when you're stuck in the doctor's office or something. We're letting computers and technology start to do all of our thinking for us!

They can watch any cartoon imaginable on youtube, just be careful, there are alot of inappropriate videos out there they can stumble upon... what you can do is find them yourself on youtube, then bookmark them and the kids can go through your bookmarked stuff to pick something to watch. My daughter loves Peggle, but it might be tricky for a young one, she also loves the cute picture apps, they just have tons of pictures of little animals doing cute things...

My daughters love the monkey preschool games, the princess dressup games, and making food with all the more pizza, cupcakes, cookiedoodle games. There are many games under the educational and kids games categories that are free or cheap, some help them learn how to write letters, spell words, etc. The Diego game is cute for learning music and colors. My kids love their games on my phone! Also scoops, shapes, be big with Clifford, animatch. My daughters know how to call their nana, grandma, dad, and aunts using faces lite

I agree with the moms who say a 4 year old shouldn't be needing an iphone to be entertained. We are the same where on long trips over 2 plus hours we use a portable DVD player, but for Dr. appts, grocery shopping and waiting for food at restaurants we play I SPY or who can count the highest or lets sing our ABC's or whatever knew song we are learning. It also helps them to learn "indoor voices" when we are at the Dr's office and restaurants.

OK, I deleted out my sarcasm. No need to be mean.

Anyhoo, there are bunches of games, we like most of them. My kids like checkers, 'make a smiley face' and several others, can't remember the names...have fun!

"Smart Toddler School Pro++" apple app– This all in one or kindergarten prep app provides everything about upper, lower case letters, numbers, colors, shapes, counting and provides good listening and learning.  The child will have the opportunity to learn to write, counting, colors, and advanced shapes.  My son learned lot from this app. He plays with it for hours and hours.
