Input on New Bath Towels--what Are Your Favorites?

We have some pretty old bath towels and need some new ones! (ours are literally decades old) The reviews I've read online seem to be all over the place so was wondering if anyone had any advice/personal experience on their favorite bath towels? Mainly looking for ones that are absorbent and resist stains although quick drying is a plus too (but not essential). Thanks!

EDITED to clarify: I'm particularly looking for brand recommendations. Thanks!

I buy the Mainstays towels from Walmart. $5 each, fluffy, absorbent, and comes in lots of different colors. I have about 10, all in different colors.

I got the Costco towels for my kids to take to college. They are the absolute best! The school does the laundry and these towels have stood up really well. They are still quite white and soft - unlike some of their friends' towels.
I have some spa towels from JC Penney and they are ok. I like the Costco ones better.

I do not have a particular brand to recommend, but make sure they are 100% cotton NOT 100% Cotton loops. If you look carefully some that say 100% cotton loops are cotton loops with a mixed "main part" of the towel and do not absorb well. My MIL has some like this. They feel really soft, but don't dry well at all!

That's funny because I was just in this predicament! I just bought some Royal Velvet towels from JC Penney catalog. I wanted some nice absorbent towels that weren't thick. I read a bunch of the reviews on them and found some on clearance for 6.99 each. I also wanted only white ones. I have had a terrible time with towels in my house smelling sour even though I wash them and dry them immediately. I don't know if its my HE machine or not but I have noticed that our old white towels don't smell sour. Anyway that's why I wanted white. I got a good deal on them too, I got 30 percent off and free shipping. We love the towels too they are super soft and absorbent too.

I always go to Ross or TJ Maxx, the prices are much more reasonable, and the quality beats most of the department stores. Personally, I don't like big fluffy towels, I like them a little broken in...but that's just me!

The quick dry ones hands down. I'll never buy the other towels again.

I have purchased towels from many places at many price points and honestly, my favorite towels, that have remained soft and are thick and nice, are the Home and Garden brand at Walmart. I normally avoid Walmart but love these towels.

The last time I bought towels, I splurged. I went to Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and bought a set labeled "Turkish Luxury Collection." They weren't the most expensive towels in the store, but they weren't cheap! Am I glad I bought them? Yes. Why? Because it has been several months, and the towels haven't started fraying around the ends, and the washcloths haven't turned to sandpaper.

I usually buy mine from the Goodwill because I hate the feel of brand new towels. I like them to feel "broken in".

I second JCPenney. I got the Royal Velvet Quick dry towels. My super picky husband loves them. I tried the super absorbent Target brand and they are not good. The JCPenney ones have a interwoven pattern. I have green and blue and no problems with smells. I do wash them on the extra hot cycle on my washer and they keep their color.
