My family and I are planning a trip to Inks Lake State Park in Burnet, Tx for a weekend and I was wondering if anyone here has ever been to it. If so, how was the park? Also, if so, did you stay over night? We have reserved a cabin for the weekend but don't have much of a description of it, so I was wondering also if anyone seen them? They sound nice for what little I read. Best thing is that they are supposed to be air conditioned. I know, we aren't really roughing it but it's going to be hot and with little kids, having air is a great idea. Thanks for any input that I receive.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

First of all, thank you all for your responses! They were sooo helpful! The park is so pretty! The whole area is so beautiful! The cabins we reserved were fine. Very small though - about 12X8 or so. Two bunk beds, a table, four chairs and a/c was provided. But since we stayed outdoors mostly the size of the cabin wasn't an issue. Making several trips to the bathroom that was a little ways a way with a four year old wasn't all that fun - those were the times I wish we had a camper with a b/r. We went to the Longhorn Caverns on Saturday as well. Very interesting and very pretty. It's a an hour & 1/2 long though. A bit long for little ones. But we were glad we did it. Tell you what though, going camping is sure a lot of work!!! But it was worth it just to get away. Thank you all again!!!!

Do a search for Inks Lake on www.wildtexas.com
This is a great website for getting to know Texas State Parks!

http://www.texasoutside.com/Hwy281/index.htm
Click on Burnet

(We drive through Burnet on the way to my in-laws)...Take S 35; Take 67; (watch your signs for 220) Veer off to the left for 220 - take to Hico; then going through Hico take S 281)...After driving these backroads I will NEVER drive Hwy 35 again. It's a beautiful route. Just make sure the kiddos go potty in Glen Rose before turning on 220. 220 is about a 14 mile stretch of farm land.

Happy Camping!!!

Hi Stephanie!

My family camped at Inks Lake several times while I was growing up and it was our favorite place to go!! It is SO SO pretty there and I remember the lake being wonderful. We would rent jet skis there too so we were always so excited to go.
I'm with you on the cabin! My husband and I love to camp but with a 1 month old, we're planning to take it one step farther even and stay in a B&B in Pennsylvania. Keeps it simplier (and life is complicated now compared to pre-baby! <g>) I think we stayed in the cabin once too at Inks Lake and remember it being fine. (This from an older child's perspective though - I haven't been back as an adult)
Have a great trip!
S.

Hi Stephanie
I was just in Burnet on Lake LBJ this past weekend! We rented lake houses from Log Country Cove. It was wonderful, especially since we were in the cove. The lake was perfect temperature!
We didn't go to Inks lake state park, but i'm sure its great. the entire area was beautiful.
I'm from Austin, and I forget how gorgeous the hill country is...
Have fun!

Hi Stephanie, we have camped there before after we had several recomendations to stay there. It was really nice! We didn't stay in a cabin (we have a camper) so I don't remember what those look like, but I'm sure they are nice. The water is so clear and clean! Have fun!

I am from Marble Falls, and Inks is pretty nice, if I were you I would take 35 to 281 and go all the way up through Granbury and Stephenville. Same distance and same loss of range on your cell phone anyway that you go about it! Although if you are worried about cell communication go up 35 all the way and then take the Georgetown exit to Burnet . Inks is a great place to go, lots of pretty scenery.
The closest Wal-Mart is in Marble Falls .HEB is in all three surrounding towns... Burnet, Marble Falls and Kingsland. If you need forgotten supplies.
Beware of the extreme overcrowding that takes place over the Summer!!! These small towns turn into tourist meccas
Lots of cute shopping to do down on the square in Brunet and on Main Street in Marble Falls.
If you go, take the time to go to the Bluebonnet Cafe, Breakfast is good, serve it all day ! but the pie is better. its on 281.
Oh and the absolute best breakfast taco you will have ever eaten is also in Marble falls at Super Taco.... I had my mom bring me some from there today.... to die for !
Oh and stop at Storms for some really great fast food Hamburgers.
Oh and Longhorn Carverns is fun little Experience!
Oh and if you happen to pronounce the town's name it's "Burn it"
"its Burn it durn it" and these crazy people will tell you.... and you will meet some crazy, drive 30 down the highway we live in the sticks people.... good luck

I think I must be hungry and miss home!
Have fun !!!!
