Hairspray! I don't know why it works, but it does! Something in it breaks down the ink. Use something cheap, like Aqua Net.
Good Luck!

Hello Ladies,
We just installed new carpet in our home, so you can imagine the frustration we experienced when we returned home and found that our black lab found and chewed a ball point pen, leaving behind an ink stain on our beige carpet. Does anyone have any secrets to ink removal? I would be really appreciative for any and all advice.

A product called Folex works to remove many types of ink stains in carpet. I think you can get it at places like Lowes and Home Depot.
Here is a link to the company website. http://www.folexcompany.com/
I know this sounds crazy, but I have heard that Mary Kay's oil-free eye makeup remover will take even nail polish out of the carpet without bleaching out the color like hydrogen peroxide. I'm guessing it might also work with ink. Go online www.marykay.com and enter your zip code to find a great consultant near you who can help you get some :)
I know that hairspray gets ink out of shirts, so you could try it on the carpet. It can't hurt. good luck!
Brake cleaner will take out almost anything. Just don't use too much or let kids or pets near it until you let it dry. If you have one of those mini- carpet cleaners, let the fluid soak for a few hours then use that to clean it out. I love brake cleaner!
Try Stain Devils Ink Remover. You can find it at JoAnn Fabric Stores. Because this is a rug, try the stain remover in an inconspicuous place to make sure that it won't discolor the rug.
try hair spray/ The cheaper the better. I used to use Aqua net on ink stains on nurses uniforms. Be sure to blot it and not rub it. it may take a few trys, but it should work
Try rubbing alchohol ad white vinegar on the stain - good luck!
Hairspray. Soak carpet with hairspray (can be cheap brand) and scrub. I use it all the time on my husband's shirts. He seems to write on them often or he carries a pen in his pocket that leaks. Be sure to test the hair spray on a piece of carpet not easily seen to be sure the color will stay in it. Good luck.
Try Murphy's oil soap, I have used it in the past and it worked great at removing permanent marker. It must be the full strength. Use with cold water only!
LA's Totally Awesome from the dollar stores might do it, rubbing alcohol gets Sharpie out, here's what I found from a DIY cleaning website: Oil, grease, magic marker and ink can be the dickens to remove. Most janitorial companies or department stores carry a product called DeSolvit. WD40 or Orange Clean also work wonders at removing these stubborn stains. Rubbing alcohol removes ink. Blot on, allow to set 30 minutes and blot to remove. Rinse with sudsy water. Magic marker is generally permanent and you may not be able to remove it.
Congratulations on your new Love!
Try using hairspray-- this takes a lot of repeating. Spay and blot repeat over and over. Any kind of hairspray. Good luck ** god bless**
Hairspray (aerosol) works pretty well, buy the cheap stuff, the more expensive doesn't work any better. Spray it on, scrub lightly and blot, then rinse with cold water. Repeat if necessary. The same thing happened to me and this worked. My only worry about the straight isopropyl alcohol is that it can act as a solvent to some glues, meaning that it could pull some of the pile from your new carpet. Hairspray generally contains some alcohol but not straight.
Try using hydrogen peroxide. Saturate the stain, wait a few minutes and the stain should be gone.
I'm not sure this works on ink, but it does on every other stain I've had. Try oxyclean. It is Amazing stuff! I've never tried the spray formula, but I have the dry stuff and I love it!
Here's what I do (I usually do this on clothes, but I did actually get a stain off my couch the other day too.)
Get the stained area wet. Sprinkle some of the oxy-clean over the area and w/a spray bottle, spray water on it to get the oxy nice and wet too. Keep spraying it throughout the day until the stain is gone. (W/my couch, what I did was just put oxy-clean in a bowl of water and w/a rag scrubbed the water solution on the couch. Then I rinsed out the rag and scrubbed w/clean water.)
My sister said that once when she left it on her clothes too long, she noticed a little fading of color, but I've never noticed that, so maybe if you can't get the stain out by scrubbing, and you try pouring in on the stain and letting it soak, when it's gone, get a glass of clean water and pour it all onto the spot. (I know it sounds weird, but it's actually kind of fun.) :) When you pour the water onto the carpet, it lifts everything else out - and then have a towel there to dry it as much as you can - what doesn't dry doesn't matter, it's just water.
Sorry for the long response, hope it helps!
My son has colored on all the furniture in the house with ink pens before. I swear by Krud Kutter. You can get it at home improvement stores. It gets everything out of anything. try it in a corner of the closet to check how safe it is on your carpet. Good luck
Hey M.,
Anytime I have ever needed to get ink out of anything, I would use hairspray. Aerosal or liquid will work. Let it soak and then soak up the ink with a dry towel. Then rewash with carpet cleaner or which ever you use to clean your carpet. I hope I am helpful. Good Luck.
I'm sorry for laughing but I can't help remembering walking into the house and seeing blue all over our cream carpets and thinking what on earth? my dog had tried to eat the pen and ended up barfing blue all over while we were gone. I sprayed it with resolve, the one that has the two sides, they bubble when they interract. anyway I did that and dabbed it up then took the simple green to it. No more blue. I was expecting it to be harder than that but it came right out. Good luck! and I promise that in a couple of years when you hear about someone else's lab doing this you will get a good chuckle out of it...has yours tried to eat the couch? ;)
Hi M. H, I'm M. A.! :D
Best thing, hands down, is this stuff you can get at Home Depot called Motsenbockers Lift Off #3. It's for pen, ink & marker (originally for graffiti) and is biodegradable and water based. Not a bad smell either! It's in a bottle about the size of a Windex bottle...not sure if I can add a link but here's the page:

Good luck!
Rubbing alcohol does the trick for my EVERY time. BLOT, don't rub. Make sure you change what ever you a blotting with, because the ink will transfer from your carpet (in this case) to your cloth or whatever you choose to use. We get those annoying pen lines on the couches from time to time. I blot them with q tips and they come right off with no damage to the couch!
Best of all, it's something you probably already have in your home and it is CHEAP! Believe me just give it a try...
spray hairspray on the stain. Let it sit for a little while, then dab it up with a warm cloth.
I had luck with hairspray on a cream sweater, and this was after the sweater had been washed and dried a few times. (The ink got on it and I wrote it off as a loss until someone told me about using hairspray. I'm embarassed to say I've had that sweater for almost 15 years now, and the ink was on it in year 2.)
Hi M., I have the Consumer Reports "How to Clean Practically Anything" book and it says for ballpoint pen to "apply rubbing alcohol to white toweling and blot. Move to clean area of towel and apply more as needed. Blot with the detergent solution and then water." (I am not exactly sure what the detergent solution is as it doesn't say, but I would imagine that it might be Dawn or something like that.) Good luck.
We have an awesome carpet cleaning company we use, Academy Services, ###-###-####. My 6 year old just spilled red paint on our mostly white carpet and Ed (the owner of the company) came over and personally set about getting out the paint. They are a small family-owned business in the Lakewood area and I would highly recommend checking them out.
