I agree with Red, we need more information. My son was breastfed for the first 4 months. While he was breastfeeding he would only have a BM every 5-6 days. Since he wasn't straining or seem upset, the doctor said he was just very efficient! We never gave him anything. After my milk dried up and we had to use formula he started having BM's more frequently, but still not everyday. After he started on solids he started having them after a couple of times a day.

how old is she? Is she breast or bottle fed? solids? It's hard to tell if anything is actually wrong without more info... My breastfed DD got constipated for a week and a half after we started solids, I gave her some diluted apple juice, and a tummy massage. (just firmly (not hard, just firm) stroke down, and rub tiny clockwise circles in the area under her belly button. She had a really full diaper after that! She gets a tummy massage now every night after her bath, and hasn't had any more constipation issues. BUT if she is just breastfed, nothing else, it is sometimes normal to go up to a week with nothing.

T., how old is the baby. Hard to suggest when we don't know baby's age.

Go back to just formula or breastmilk if you can. Stop the cereal. Babies don't start cereal until they are 6months plus. Your baby is getting constipated because of the cereal. Also, formula fed babies don't have as frequent bowel movements as B/fed babies---it just goes through them quicker. Best wishes!

Stop the cereal, it's constipating her. If she is only two months old it is WAY to early to be starting solids. A LOT of new research has come out since your Grandmother's had children. Her digestive system needs time to develop. You need to wait until she looses her tongue thrust reflex, she can sit on her own , is showing tons of interest in your food. This normally happens around 6 months of age. Feeding before then can set her up for life long digestive problems (including IBS, crones disease and celiac disease).

I think we used to give my son colace but I am not sure how old he was. I would give a quick call to the ped in the morning. Do they have a medical answering service? Is he in pain?

Am I understanding correctly that she is two months old? No cereal til 6 months. Call your ped or nurse-on-call for some advice for a baby that little.
SOMETIMES, a rectal thermometer with a LOT of Vaseling kind of gets things moving IF you "just" place it in a tiny, tiny, teensy bit--but I would definitely call the nurse/nurse at the ped's office.

I agree with most of the comments on here. It's too soon for solids, but my Dr. said no Karo syrup, either. He said it's a lot like honey, and can contain bacteria that's harmful. We had to use 1/2 of a suppository and diluted applejuice. Good luck!

My babies pediatrician said to try a little Karo Syrup in the bottle..i havent had to try it yet, but i have been told that by a lot of other moms that it does work. I was told about a half a teaspoon per bottle.
