Target, kohls, shopko and walmart all have leotards and unitards. I have a daughter who does dance and gymnastics. You can find good deals on amazon and ebay too. Good luck.
OK, so the deal is, I'm cheap. I don't like spending the kind of money my daughter's gymnastics gym charges for gymnastics outfits. Can you get gymnastics outfits at Target, Kohls, etc? My daughter is 3.5. She is the only one in her class not wearing a unitard or leotard and I would like her to visually fit in without having to spend more on the clothes than we do on the class! :) Let me know--thanks. (I looked at Once Upon a Child and at the time I looked they were all larger sizes)

At the dance instructors suggestion, I bought our Danskin Leotards at Wlamart for $8. They have black, pink, and white. Short sleeve and long sleeve. They are on a short rack in the girls clothes section. It may have hair hooties on the other side. Kind of hard to find the 1st time if you dont know where to look.
You might get lucky at a thrift store.
I'm in St. Paul, so I go to Valu Thrift or the D.A.V. stores. (I find that Goodwill and Savers are not thrifty enough for me :)
I get my own exercise clothes from the thrift store--shorts, sports bra, etc. I've gotten some good, high-quality stuff, too!
I don't know what options exist for a 3.5 year old girl, but it's worth a shot.
Try the resale shops in your area. We have one that only takes like new clothes and sells the leo's for $7.25 up to $8.50. I know what you mean about prices though. In the store I work in that is inside a gymnastics/dance studio we have leo's that start around $18 and go up to $55. Snowflake brand is the highest but they are stinking beautiful. I can't afford them for sure! I hope you find some cool places that you can find the size you are looking for.
It is important to fit in so she may be feeling a bit like an outsider by not being dressed like her friends. Also, if you are going to make her wear underwear please buy her a biketard or put some bootie shorts on over the leo so her undies won't be hanging down outside of the leo. There is nothing worse that seeing a little girl with her undies hanging out and drooping nearly down to her knees and her pulling on them all the time.
A biketard in a one piece outfit that has extended legs that go down to about mid thigh. No longer than that for sure.
I buy plain black leotards at Walmart and decorate them with rhinestones! They have cute rhinestone designs at Michaels, peace symbols, hearts etc. I iron them on, and people are always asking my daughter where she buys her leotards!
Too bad your daughter isn't bigger! I have the cutest black velvet leotard with hot pink shiny straps and a rhinestone gymnast on the front. It's brand new, a mom ordered it and then she left and never paid me! It's a size 7-8 but really fits a 5-6. You have a few more years to go before it fits her :( I was going to sell it for $20, totally cheap for this type of leotard because it's the kind you normally pay $50 for!
When my daughter was in gymnastics, parents often brought in their used ones to exchange -- perhaps you could ask around to see if the other parents would be interested in starting something like that up.
Ask your daughters coach where they recommend or if they have a collection of 2nd hand. When my daughter was in gymnastics at the Y they had a unitard that I was able to purchase for $3.
I buy my daughter's at Target. I also believe they have them at Walmart.
There is nothing cuter than a little girl in the simple pink or black Danskin leotards from Wal-Mart. Precious!
Target sells fancier ones.
Watch the clearance racks (in the big girls area)-I often see the smaller sizes super cheap there.
I've found them at ShopKo and Kohls. STill not really cheap, but less than $30 - especially if you can get them on sale.
Check ebay too. and if any of the other kids are older/bigger than your daughter, see if those parents want to sell the ones their kids out grew. and maybe the coach/teacher has some ideas too.
Check Ebay. I have seen new and gently used items listed there.
Play it Again Sports? Consignment stores or used clothing stores other than Once Upon a Child. I know of one in Inver Grove Heights and one in Eagan.
We always got leotards from Wal-Mart or Target when my girls were younger. They're cute and the quality is fine for what the younger kids do in class.
Yes. My daughter has been in dance for 3 years (she's 5) and I have always found them at decent prices from Target, Walmart, Kohls, & Shopko. But I've gotten my best deals on Ebay. Many of them are brand new off Ebay and some gently used. Just have to keep checking from time to time. Good luck!
My girls just wear their dance leotards w/ out the tights.... they totally look like the gymnastic ones when the tights are off! Check with your neighbors too... we just got 4 from them!!
