Are there any moms out there who were induced with their first child (not elective, but haaaaad to because past EDD), and naturally went into labor for the 2nd, 3rd, etc? I know every pregnancy and every woman is different. My doctor says there is no way of telling, well I would like to see for myself (thank God for mamasource).
Thanks moms for your time!

I was induced with my 1st daughter at 37 weeks due to heart rate drops noted on NST. Induction wasn't that bad and I did deliver vaginally...no c-section! My 2nd was also induced, electively, but only 1 week prior to due date with no signs at all of labor coming on. She was also delivered vaginally and so much easier than the 1st! Who knows what would have happened if I would have waited. Probably would have been fine too.

Hey there!
I was induced with my first pregnancy. Its actually funny cause i was put on strict bed rest at 24weeks for pre-term labor (i was 3cent dilated and 100% effaced) i was taken off bed rest at 36weeks and never went into labor. I was almost 2 weeks past my due date and my dr. induced me. My labor was 8 hours and i ended up having an epidural 1/4 the way through. I was not happy about the thought of being induced but i was glad to not be pregnant anymore!! 42weeks is too long. lol
My second pregnancy as i came close to the end i really felt like i would be induced again. I did not need bed rest, thank God! At 38weeks i went to the dr for a usual exam and she told me that i was barely 1cent and only 40%effaced and baby was still really high. I was really bummed after the apt and the thought of being induced again made me mad. I really just wanted to go into labor on my own. I wanted to experience going into labor "naturally." Well that was on a Monday i had my apt and Wednesday morning at 4am my water broke. I finished packing the bags, called my mom and friend and my husband and i were off to the hospital! I had a 4 hour labor with an epidural that wore off...so i delivered her with no drugs! OUCHIE!!!!!!!!!!
Starting at 36 weeks i started taking primrose oil, orally and vaginally. I also did red raspberry leaf tea. I am not sure if that did anything to put me into labor. Monday, tues and wed before i went into labor i did heavy walking, stairs etc trying to get labor to start. and that wed night it did, at 38weeks.
So it is totally possible to go into labor naturally after being induced.
:) :) :) :)

Well i don't know what EDD is but i was induced with my daughter due to low amniotic fluid. My labor was 5 hours start to finish. With my son I went into labor on my own and was in labor for and hour and 6 minutes, he was born in the back of an ambulance without drugs. I had an epi with my daughter.

I was induced with my son 5 days early because he was indistress and not growing properly (2 vessel cord). Hurt like hell. With my daughter I went in for a routine appointment and discovered that I was 7-8 cm dialated. I only felt some pressure and was shocked to be in labor. (I have a very low pain tollerance ask my husband who was stunned!) She was 2 weeks early.

My first baby was induced at 38 weeks (not elective, because really, who would do that on purpose?), my labor lasted 18 hours (all with an epidural), and she came out just fine. My second baby came 8 days past EDD - I had to go into labor naturally to avoid a c-section, so I had to wait and wait and wait (this was a much more complicated pregnancy as she was breech, I had a cerclage, and we were in another country. Plus I had a 2 year old, so I wanted to avoid surgery at all costs. Unfortunately, I still had to have the c-section because she stuck her foot out first). I have friends in their 40's who were born a month after their EDD, but doctors won't let a pregnancy go that long nowadays because it's too dangerous (low amniotic fluid, deteriorating placenta, high birth weight, etc).

My sister was induced with her first baby and was scheduled to be induced for her second because she was 14 days past due. The day of her scheduled induction, she went into labor on her own. She delivered a 10lb 5 oz baby vaginally! As long as the baby and you are not in distress I'd ask for as much past due time as possible. I think our culture has gotten too focused on our EDD and should let the babies come on their own terms.

Hi N.,

I was induced 1 month before my due date because my water broke just as I was getting ready to go to sleep for the night. When I got to the hospital, the nurse said I was not dilated at all...needless to say, it was not a fun night. Anyway, my next baby was textbook - just a couple of days before the due date, labor pains came on gradually, etc. So it is possible...

you are right indeed about every mom and every pregnancy being different.

trust that your doctor did the best he/she could to give you as healthy a baby possible.

if you find yourself in the same predicament with your next child, be sure that you get all the information that you need about the procedure. the risks and benefits of induction as well as the risks and benefits of not being delivered within a certain time period.

if you can't trust your doctor, maybe it's time to find one that shares the same values as you do.
