I have a 7 yr old that is in 1st grade. She has alot of trouble in reading. I have had her tested thru GISD and they have not found anything wrong with her. She is now at the point where she will probably be held back in first grade.

What can I do next?

I don't have your solution, but I know where you're coming from. My soon to be 7 yr old had the same situation and I had the same concerns. Suprisingly, when I moved she improved drastically at her new school. At her old school I always got a lot of complaints, but this school I have not gotten one and now she is even reading her books to me on her own, something that I thought would never happen. I really hope you are able to find a good program that can teach her what she needs to know to excel, best of wishes!

Hello C.,
I am currently attending UTD as an education student seeking my degree and teacher certification. I also currently operate my own in home daycare. I have in the past tutored students and may be able to help you and your family out. Please let me know if you are interested.
Thanks

Try Sylvan Learning Center, they are really good it is costly but it works. There is another program called KUMON, I don't know much about them, but I hear a lot of advertising for them. Hope this helps.

I may be able to tutor your daughter. I have a master's degree, am currently certified and taught kindergarten for 3 years before deciding to stay home with my now 17 month old daughter. I live in the panhandle of Richardson, close to Garland. I've been interested in doing some tutoring lately :)

I am a private tutor for your daughter's age group. I have 8 years teaching experience and am Texas Certified. I currently stay at home with my son and tutor for St. John's Episcopal School. I live in East Dallas near White Rock lake, which is fairly close to Garland. Would be happy to help out. Let me know if you need more information.

The Meadowview School in Mesquite near Town East Mall also does afternoon and summer tutoring for kids outside the school. They also have a diagnostician and speech/language therapist on staff just in case they need to be consulted. They are located at 2419 Franklin Drive just behind Town East Mall. Their number is ###-###-####.
