Google it. If you type "free stuff to do" then add the city/town and sate it will bring up a list of websites with tons of info.
just had an "aha" moment - i have the family i never knew i always wanted. wow.
so now what to do with this awesome feeling? we have no money to speak of (maybe i could squeeze out about $10 from our budget, but really probably shouldn't...) but we are surrounded by a whole city full of options.
last week we tried to do a nature walk and my son had a bad experience. not sure i want to try that again just yet.
maybe the dog park. that's always awesome.
anyone have any cheap, fabulous ideas for a lazy saturday? physical activity is a bonus!
oh yeah...there's always housecleaning...lol. i'll get on that then come back and see what ya'll come up with.
thanks in advance!!
woooow rosebud that geocaching sounds SO fabulous!!! and thanks to aunt melmel, those ideas are great too - we have done deanna rose and love it!
so the "fabulousness" was house cleaning, a nap, and now taking little one to dollar tree to spend a few dollars he earned (this morning, while doing hosework lol)
ah well. one person's fabulousness.....lol.
thanks everyone! i guess fabulous is what you make of it! have a great weekend!

Find an orchard and go pick some seasonal fruit/veggies.
Drive to the city and walk around downtown. We love going to the big hotels and checking out in their lobbies.
Fly a kite - that's one of our most favorite things to do.
This summer, I bought a package of 250 straws for $1 at the grocery store, 200 paper plates for $2.99 and a bag of balloons for $1 (I think 30-40 balloons). We made structures out of them. We worked on it all day.
Or you can blow up a few balloons and play volleyball, baseball and tennis with them. So much fun and alot easier for little kids who have never played with real balls.
Several towns near us have 'splash pads' that are free and part of a park with swings, slides, etc. and a pavilion for shaded eating. Do you all have roller blades? bikes? Come help us pack for our move next week? :-)
Make a picnic & hit the park....one you've never tried before.
Go fishing. Try the nature walk again, but make a treasure hunt map & gather fun things: black rock, feather, different leaves, etc. Then go home & make a collage.
Start making homemade Christmas cards/gifts.
Bake something & share it with a neighbor or loved one.
Pull out your photos & relive memories. Start a Memory Journal.
Enjoy!
Home Depot in our area has free kids projects once a month. We have a horse race track that has bouncers, a petting zoo and free tours of the stables on the weekends. We have city run splash pads and wading pools. Take a tour of the city's playgrounds. Go to the airport to watch the planes land and take off.
i saw that post of yours and thought 'i LOVE that!'
good for you!
an urban scavenger hunt? hiding post-it notes with happy messages around the library? duck-feeding at a park? ice cream outing?

My kids are older so we don't go to the park often. But sometimes I will pack a picnic and we will go hang out by the lake. Or when they were younger, we would drive around and find new parks we hadn't been to yet. Out here there are a lot of splash pads and public pools that are only $1 to get into and you can bring your own food and drinks. =)
Deanna Rose! Not sure if you've been there or not...my daughter loved it.
We are cleaning today...but tomorrow we are splurging for Schlitterbahn! Our little one finally got his cast off we might get to actually swim this summer!
What about going to Loose Park? I heard they have kept the Rose Garden up this summer.
We have gone down window shopping at the Plaza and walked around looking at the fountains and statues. Took a picnic.
I've always wanted to do this, but didn't :*(
It's raining here today, but you can always walk a mall (no buying anything).
Does your family have skates? We have skated in cul-de-sacs and in the neighborhood.
Biking is always fun.
Take some bread and go to a pond with ducks. We have little ponds all over the city that have ducks and sometimes geese, although I really prefer the ducks (less scary).
We also have parks with ponds where you can fish, but adults need to pay for a fishing license.
For a couple dollars, some parks (with the fishing) also have paddle boats to rent. (I realize we live in one of the inexpensive states - KY - I don't know about KS).
Many parks have playgrounds and picnic tables.
Go fly kites if there is a breeze.
My family still loves going to good old-fashioned bricks-and-mortar book stores.
Or go to the library. Walking or biking to the library is a plus.
